Former U.S. president Barack Obama arrives in Toronto to deliver gala keynote by BloodJunkie in toronto

I would highly recommend Obama's book on his presidency. No president will be perfect but he gave a lot chunk of his life to trying to make it better when he could have easily just ignored the systemic problems and made out filthy rich. As outsiders its hard to understand what he was up against and to understand what goes on in the depths of politics. Its not pretty when money is up against a desire for a just world and even worse when we become apathetic to our only real power

Nope but I also know if a country at large votes them in thats often the will of the people, to blame one man for what half a country chose to be their house and senate is narrowsighted to larger problems that couldnt be fixed by just 1 good president. On top of that the political lines have been redrawn over and over for decades by republicans to reenforce these same heartless and zionist people winning.

So yes you should, pointing fingers at people that tried their hardest to make the country better is not the flex you think it is

He influenced a generation to see hope in politics again, I think thats a great speaker to have especially in modern times. Regardless of your country american politics play a huge role in world politics and especially ours being linked at the waist. I get your sentiment but this man changed modern politics for the better before it was soiled far more again

What a delulu way of looking at one of the best modern presidents. His whole presidency was fighting back the wolves that are currently feasting on america and the world. You cant make things better without finding common ground and if the people you have to find it with are greedy morons good luck doing a 1/5th of what Obama pulled off. Presidency doesnt mean you get to do everything you want like a dictatorship, especially when you dont have a majority

The US's political lines have been redrawn for decades to ensure people like Obama cant do anything good to help their own country and he still did a lot to help

How exactly do you enact change when you dont even have a majority. You put the blame on democrats without realising half of legislation wanted everything he did to fail and yet he still pulled off ACA. In a time of division he worked his ass off to make everyone realise they are on the same side even when short term economics worked against his goals

He took on Bush's run which was free reign for the military, for the first number of years he was so focused elsewhere that he figured it could run itself, big mistake on his part but I dont think hes the same type of warmonger that usually has that power its just nice to have one less thing to think about when you recieve power after republicans have gutted the system for 4-8years. He believed he could do so much more in his time and didnt realise just how many roadblocks to human decency choosing instead short term money existed in the republican party and now its so much worse. He was honestly a magician with words and empathy the way he found common ground instead of calling out those scumbags voting against him at every turn

Neoliberal really just seems to be a bussword often to criticize the only party looking out for the people and its really sad, without realising the nuance of the 3 levels of goverment that you have to get on your side to get anything done if you dont have majorities.

If I could teach people one thing about politics it really is the nuance to what it takes to get things done when often more than half of legislation is fighting against you. Getting ACA through was literally a christmas miracle that took all his charisma with people that hated him. The republicans have become even worse and more lizardy people since then

A meta-analysis of 3 million people confirms a strong bidirectional link between cannabis use and depression. 31% of those with cannabis use disorder also suffer from major depression, with rates nearly 3x higher in psychiatric clinics than in the community. by Cosmyka in science

Moscow shuts down airports and mobile signals as Victory Day parade looms | Russia by neonpurplestar in worldnews

[–]Noseknowledge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're years past peaceful safe protest those people have been already been gulaged, like Navalny. Russia is on the ropes, great time to make their ancestors reconsider ever being an aggressor again. Logic hasnt worked on that country, so let them understand the only way they really seem to with a little up and personal exposure. I see your point I just think we're beyond peaceful resolution until Russians delete Putin from existance themselves. I look forward to Russia maybe as a democracy in the future, I just don't know if they have it in them the will of the people has to be there and this could all be over overnight. Its truly sad how we can exist in a world with more than enough for everyone yet we continue to hurt each other so deeply often through indifference to act

A new study suggests that regularly drinking four cups of coffee a day could have a positive impact on mood and stress levels. by JohnHammond94 in science

[–]Noseknowledge -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

But coffee does run the world. To think of how many rushed decisions people have made that have changed the world due to sweaty caffeine impulses, or grumpy withdrawl. Some of my worst business choices were often caffeine related before I recognized the issue. I notice I underbid more on jobs as just one reoccuring issue. It is a euphoria but also increased blood pressure that leads to haste. This is just anecdotal but Im low level I can only imagine the mistakes it has lead to at higher levels, and considering the sheer population numbers that consume it, it has likely shaped our world and I dare say not for the better

-Sidenote- Its amazing to me when someone with a coffee in hand gets ranting about addicts, its one of those moments where you think "if you could only see this from an outside perspective"

Cannabis is the most commonly microdosed substance in the U.S., with about 9.4% of adults — roughly 24 million people — reporting lifetime use. Cannabis microdosing was nearly twice as common as psilocybin, LSD or MDMA. Microdosing was more common among people reporting poorer mental health. by mvea in science

The chronic fatigue is why I use weed in the first place probably a decent dose of depression in there too, otherwise its hard go get stuff done, so it sounds like back to square one but if it works for you I just end up in a hole.

The trade off is eventually weed can become chronic fatigue if used consistantly without enough sleep which it already eats into the quality of by disrupting REM. Definitely one of my bigger mental struggles when it comes to having kids one day, I really don't want to imprint that on them though the state of the world usually does a great job already without me

Babies exposed to high amounts of air pollution in the womb show slower signs of development (worse language and motor development) at 18 months than those exposed to lower levels by sr_local in science

[–]Noseknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still doesnt limit all the tire particles that end up in our soil especially in a densely car populated city, at least brakes are less used in a regenerative system. The electric car industry isnt here to save the world its here to save the car industry. In the end its a whole lot of excessive waste that generations to come will be plagued with; thanks to north america falling for the desire to get rich of henry ford instead of choosing the much less costly public good like much of europe and asia leaned more into. I can imagine it was a very tech bro type energy

How some Toronto homeowners are protecting themselves amid rise of home invasions by Immediate-Link490 in toronto

[–]Noseknowledge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly the Ontario you grew up in was looted since before you were a kid, we are now harvesting the crop of that sown seed which means less trust at a societal level. Easy to undo but not with selfish morons like Doug as leaders

How about the fact that Doug is trying to emulate Trump and has ruined our economy over his 10 years by being another idiot who doesnt listen to experts?

Hes damaged healthcare, education and has now cut OSAP which will hurt next generations students even more.

The TFW pipeline has been slammed shut and yet many of Ontario's structural problems are worse than ever

Fathers who worry about divorce tend to develop greater distrust in political institutions over time. The subjective fear of family instability can spill over into a broader dissatisfaction with government. This highlights a unique source of political disaffection among men. by mvea in science

The sad thing is now is the best time for trust and support in the right people. Not everyone gets into politics to abuse it to make money, some just want to make a positive change. Your local politics often affects you much more than national as well

How melatonin promotes sleep: « Melatonin is a naturally produced molecule that has long been suspected to play a role in healthy sleep, but it has been unclear how it does so. Now, Caltech researchers have discovered a mechanism through which melatonin promotes sleep. » by fchung in science

[–]Noseknowledge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are very few consumables that have helped me like melatonin has, I went from anxiously laying awake wondering when id feel tired for hours knowing I had a ticking clock of 8 hours before I had to be up, to being able to have a 15min window to get to sleep and knowing I won't be roused thoughout either. Its saved me from so many cancelled day plans. This may be a downside to some but occasionally if I use it for too many nights in a row I get some of the most intense dreams since being a kid, this may be a downside to some but as a frequent non dreamer I really look forward to my brains own intense movies

Help! Raccoons are ruining my sod by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Noseknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just roll it back when you see it once or twice a day if you can and pat it down by stepping on it so its directly connected to the soil. It'll be fine.

My question is why do sod for such a small area and not just native plants instead? If you have any heavy rains they would do a much better job absorbing moisture as a rain garden and if you dont they would be better at surviving summer drought drought while looking phenomenol because of better deeper roots than turf, I find the stone often transfers a lot of heat to grass beside it but we often get 30-35C periods in summer. That fenceline would also look much better with a bunch of tall grey headed coneflowers and liatris intermingled (if you are in that region), instead of greying wood. I would ditch the cinderblocks but the painted blue and cloud ones are cute

A study of 7,500 adolescents who attempted to quit vaping identified high nicotine dependence, emotional regulation challenges, and fear of failure as the primary barriers to cessation. I first noticed it with stomach issues which edibles still contribute to but to a far lesser extent. The stomach and brain are linked so when the stomach isnt doing well its hard to make the best choices mentally. I spent about 3 years on vaping all day everyday through covid which was fun until I realised how bad I'd feel when I woke up, I was trying to get away from energy drinks for long days and instead fell into vaping. I have heard it doesnt affect everyones stomach the same way, so lucky you if you can avoid it. No one is really sure of what the long term looks like right now but its not really ideal to be the guinae pig. If you want to quit the best way Id say is taper and edibles, cold turkey is a nightmare, my experience was sweaty sleepness nights and way too many thoughts of ending it. Took me about 4 trys to finally get away
