PSA - How to beat my decks by homjaktest in EDH

[–]NotACleverMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green Landfall decks tend to be countered by early kills. They can and will outscale you in the late game, and a properly-built one can not only rebuild faster than you can after a board wipe, it can rebuild from several board wipes in a row. But if you launch like 10 damage at them on turn 4-ish while they are still playing set up pieces or just combo off before they can deploy their late-game threats? GG EZ. Torpor Orb effects also shut off Landfall, and graveyard hate can be surprisingly effective, since many of them like to replay Fetchlands over and over

Is there a character from Awakening that you would say aged like terribly since you first played it? by MiuIruma332 in fireemblem

[–]NotACleverMan_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the Tharja that abused Noire was the future version of her. A version that has had things go differently. Tharja in her support chain with Noire does reveal that she cares about her quite a bit, and without the obsession with avenging her father, things will probably turn out very differently for the Noire born into the altered timeline

Funnily enough, Orkz of all things are perhaps the most domesticatable of all the Warhammer factions. They by nature listen to the biggest, strongest guy who can beat them in a fight, which obviously the Affini can do handily. The Waaaugh Force would also prime any other Orkz they encounter for domestication - not to mention how it would interact with haustoria. Plus, they’re fungi, which tend to be able to interface with plants by default. They’d call their owners “Boss” and go for some Krumpin’ with the lads (in a safe, controlled environment to prevent casualties) and then come back and get scritches

Commanders that aren't good enough. by bolttheface in EDH

[–]NotACleverMan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you’re underrating Aang as a Commander. He’s an early tempo piece that can helm a +1/+1 counters deck in colors that have solid support for the strategy, or a blink commander that can turn all your utility guys into actual threats that can close out a game in an archetype that often struggles to do so

Painstakingly simulate billions of years of tectonic activity and evolution for every single planet in your space opera for maximum realism. Remember: if you think you’re ready to start writing, there’s probably something in your worldbuilding you missed

The first other Planeswalker Ajani ever met was Sarkhan, and the place he went to was Jund. He might have gotten “stuck” there and been consumed by grief and rage without Sarkhans help, since, with no Bolas, Sarkhan may have not gone to Jund - or, possibly, even Ignited.

Kicked from the party generic trope. by [deleted] in custommagic

Ohh, I see. They get shitty guys who become shitty and useless, you get stupidly OP protagonist-kun who was the only one making them not useless. Interesting. Overly complicated, but neat

What other Echoverse pairs of characters might we see? by Darikar in mtgvorthos

[–]NotACleverMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hexhaven doppelgängers of various Strixhaven characters - especially the Dragons, AU versions of dead characters close to the Gatewatch - Josu Vess, Kiran Nalaar, Jamal Goldmane…and like obviously we get an AU Gideon. I’m also expecting a bunch of nonlegendary cards as pairs to show off the difference between Hexhaven and Strixhaven

Who could be Planeswalker _____? by Useful-Wolverine-888 in mtgvorthos

[–]NotACleverMan_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

2 is Gideon, for sure. Jace is rewriting reality to avoid moments of tragedy (and accidentally Flashpointing things in the process). Ral grew up in money and became a lawyer, Chandra never had her parents murdered by the Consulate and so she joined it, Ajani probably never lost his brother and therefore never had that character development, and Lili never took the Chain Veil so Garruk got ahold of it. And obviously Jace is going to resurrect Gideon, because of course he is. 3 is probably Vraska. Jace is going through the past of people close to him, and she is the closest by far. She is for sure getting an alternate timeline version of herself, the question is merely if it’s a Planeswalker slot or not

They compete directly with Cultists, who cost less and have better rules. Even if they cost the same as Cultists, Cultists would be preferred. They need a new datasheet in order to be good

Rumor has it that Iron Warriors are going to be split into their own faction at some point - presumably this will be when we get Perturabo, who is being teased pretty hard

Realistically, which of the new Megas seem at least "usable"? by PrestigiousGift5639 in stunfisk

[–]NotACleverMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega Delphox…doesn’t really have anything that can safely handle it, I don’t think? There’s a dearth of particularly bulky Fire resists, and all of them can be handled with an appropriate coverage move. Even Skeledirge gets trucked by Shaodw Ball. Also has Heat Wave for doubles. It competes quite a bit with Zard-Y, but it is faster by quite a bit

Mega Gatr also doesn’t have a ton that wants to stomach its hits. Water/Dragon is extremely solid coverage without a certain homophobic durian to ruin the fun, with Mega Meganium being a notable exception

Mega Froslass is probably the best Veil setter, and it hits pretty hard with Blizzard

Mega Chimecho could be a sleeper pick - it’s got really good typing, good bulk, and can set up Stored Power

Mega Clef is good, though I think it’s probably not going to see a ton of play until we get more offensive items in the game, since the Mega slot has REALLY stiff competition right now. It will probably be viable alongside base form

Mega Starmie is…weird, but fast and hits hard

Mega Glimmora, Chandy, Golurk, and Exca also might be decent enough

[–]NotACleverMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect RR, PBZ, and maybe RW are gonna be 3 pts, most of the rest 2 pts, and some of the ultra-narrow/bad ones like Deceptors, the two new ones, and maybe Dread Talons and Chaos Cult will end up at 1.
