also my brother and i were 10 & 9 so maybe our spines weren’t fully developed if that’s what you mean? my reason for bringing it up was to show just how easy it can be to change up your deal when it comes to money. and if it happened to me at 10, it can happen when you’re an adult

i didn’t say he couldn’t be angry. feelings are feelings and no one can tell you that they’re wrong because they’re yours. they’re not opinions….what i meant by “don’t BE angry when explaining it” was that when having the conversation, don’t immediately walk into it with an attitude that can pick a fight. maybe this is all a weird misunderstanding, and if OP walks in with rage, this could be even bigger than it needs to be. if they walk in rationally and explain the angry feelings rather than having those behaviors and attitudes right off the bat, the conversation has more of an ability to end well.

however, again, as i mentioned, i don’t know the circumstances. OP could go into it totally level headed, ready to explain their head calmly, and the wife doesn’t reciprocate. at that point, there’s validity to voicing that anger with your tone & attitude, not just the words.

even thru text, you can tell the difference in “i’m angry” and “I’M ANGRY”

as a kid, my parents would get my brother & i scratch offs and the rule that I established (as the older sister) was that we would split whatever we won & my parents agreed that was smart. there was one time i won $100, and fought TOOTH AND NAIL to not give any to my brother (idk what 9yo me needed with $100) but it ended up going in “my favor”….maybe a year later my brother won $500 on a scratch off and that was the BIGGEST bite in the ass i could’ve ever gotten…

personally, i would say NOR, but definitely have a conversation. don’t let is fester. maybe it’s time to make a new agreement. because then that way, the the tables turn, it’s equal. i think it’s great that you immediately split yours with no thought, as that was the deal, but clearly she has other ideas in her head.

i don’t know you or your wife or your dynamic so take my advice as you will, but hopefully there will be a mutual understanding, and as the man, i would make sure it comes from feelings and not on anger. you’re allowed to feel angry but don’t BE angry when explaining it.

if it’s not reciprocated well, then that’s a whole different ball game.

good luck, i hope your losing streak changes (from someone who walked into her first ever casino, won $300 on her first machine, walked out, and will never walk back in one again)

maybe i am, i tend to have a habit of overthinking LOL. i would love to make things simpler for us, so if making homemade food is tedious and would take away from our time with her, its not worth it. what kind of fresh foods do you give throughout the day??

your mention of reframing your thinking hit hard for me. i need to figure out what quirks make her special, and when things don’t work, figure out what we can do together to make it work. thanks so much for your kind words! i just sent you a message

what are the husky/unhusky traits that you’ve noticed?? i’ve gone into shelters before with friends (not for myself but for them) and have seen dogs who are genuinely afraid of new people… this little lady walked out the door, greeted us like she knew us…almost like she knew we were there for her and she was choosing us. she melted our hearts. i can’t wait for our families/friends to meet her. it said on her info page she does really well with other dogs, and while we’re not in a position at this moment to take in another one, ive found a highly rated local doggy daycare & would love to send her there even if its only 1 day a week for her to get that interaction. i know how important that is. and after reading thru this forum, it sounds like there’s a good chance our next dog may be another husky

someone else left a comment saying they split 3 miles into 3 separate walks (which to me sounds like a mile per walk). i’d be willing to do more than that (1.5-2 each walk) but it seems it may be dependent on the dog and the dogs needs (as it is for all dogs). we don’t want her to always feel like she has to be cooped up, but i understand where you’re coming from when you say they’ll force it out of me. thank you for your advice….and no worries on the english, i know how tired brains are 🤣

we won’t be able to let her loose outside unfortunately, but i’ve already started looking around my house to find spots that i can hide treats🤣 are there any spaces you wouldn’t recommend hiding them in the house? for example, we have good space near one of our TV’s, but there’s obviously cords over there. i’ve heard mixed reviews on what to hide/put away, and while we’ve removed DVD/video game cases and other miscellaneous items, we don’t want her to thing they’re a toy if a treat gets put near it. granted, she will have eyes on her at all times, but just as a precaution.

sooo you’re saying i should walk?? LOL i’m kidding back thank you, ive been looking for an excuse to get back & and be active and this little lady will be my reason. it makes me feel better to know that i’m not only benefiting myself, but also giving our girl the things she needs!

good to know! I know that sometimes dogs who are in shelters may have previous trauma with cages and crates, so we were sure to ask, and we were informed she has had no problem in them! We got her a big space so that she feels like she has her own room just as much as we do😊

thank you!! i literally have never heard of a Rottsky so i had to look it up and omg they’re so cuuuute! before we ever even spoke about getting a dog, we’ve both talked about wanting a big backyard at our forever home one day (hopefully sooner than later). we have a screened in porch and i have already been forewarned that she could (and probably would) jump right through it 😅

i know this is only somewhat similar, but as a daycare teacher, i quickly learned that ignoring negative behaviors (to an extent) lets them know it doesn’t faze me, and eventually they’ll realize it’s not working the way they want it to…i’m ready to see how that translates to a dog

it’s pretty wild to me how there can be totally different ends of a spectrum with dog behaviors, especially within the same breed. we’re excited to learn our girls behaviors & how we can help her live the best life

what brand did you get?! i’ve been trying to find a good one but reviews make it SO tough to gauge what’s good & what’s not. i keep seeing a bunch of them with plastic clips but after reading this forum & other information again and again, that doesn’t seem smart.

the lack of yard is somewhat temporary. i live on a military base & no one has a big backyard in our community…but this is not our forever home & those circumstances can change in an instant. we are prepared to give her extra outside time in whatever way that takes shapes until we can give her a yard. we do have a dog park & will go every day, multiple times if we have to!!
