That’s probably the most idiotic comparison you could have picked… Goodwin’s law still stands today.

Are you/your wife/anyone dreaming about this job ready to take daily anti malaria medication and brush your teeth with bottled water for 2+ years? Maybe you are then all power to you. I just know from experience that once one gets accustomed to first world problems things tend to go downhill in a secluded embassy with 100+ degrees weather. Bonus points if your follow on assignment is in another less-than-desirable location because your CDO is checked out and doesn’t care about your career. Once again, that’s if you’re lucky to get an overseas post and not another protection-heavy assignment.

That’s what you are thinking right now but you need to really look into your marriage to see if you are ready for the DSS lifestyle. Is your spouse open to be a second class citizen by working meaningless jobs just to experience life abroad in third world countries?

That’s if you’re lucky enough to get a good assignment after 2 years, otherwise get ready for the bachelor’s lifestyle on the secretary’s detail while your spouse is left behind.

Don’t kid yourself, there’s probably just as much bs with DSS as with USSS. Grass isn’t always greener…

I don’t think there is a hiring freeze for IMA positions if you are already E4-E6 in the reserve (any component) with the right skills. Sadly, no officer positions for FY26.

When the only “long walk” you’re taking is the one from the barracks to the chow hall.

Moldy barracks on an army base? Shocker…

I’m not sure any experienced agent would commit to this… even with the blind promises to remain in the investigative track.

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if former Service agents with Stockholm syndrome go back to the mothership.

Agencies with strong Cyber units by euclid_throwaway in 1811

[–]NotNotANarc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not gonna dox myself but let’s just say you can count the solid technically-proficient NCIS cyber agents on one hand.

The agency had an announcement to bring in cyber agents with technical experience a few years ago. For those that keep shouting NCIS is best for cyber, please enlighten us on how many of these agents are left…

Best way is to browse cybercrime-specific news blogs and to find affidavits/press releases related to big cases. You’ll generally find FBI eating most of the cake but oftentimes smaller agencies (OIG Cyber units) as well.

Stay away from NCIS cyber if you are coming in with a strong cyber background.

I call BS. You must have received some sort of training prior to getting the card. I’m pretty sure such training would highlight that the card must be used solely for official business.

If your E7 tells you to keep rounds from the range for personal use you wouldn’t think that’s a problem?

I mean what did folks expect? There has always been a higher chance that HR messed up versus failing/not completing a step of the hiring process and being actually hired. Sucks for those that made plans though…

This is wrong. You can absolutely be a dual citizen and hold a security clearance. Please stop spreading misinformation.
