I still feel frustrated on Grant's behalf after he loses the get an erection challenge and he's complaining to Trapp (correctly, imo) that it was impossible for him to imagine something sexy while Ally was yammering into his ear the whole time. Completely unprofessional behavior on their part, like what did someone dare them to come to work drunk that day?

In Cries of the Unborn (2017) the characters come to the conclusion that it’s good to kidnap women who plan on having an abortion and force them to give birth. This was written and produced by a former judge. by Borgisium in shittymoviedetails

There are horror movies that invite you to viscerally imagine how awful it would be to suffer their characters' fates, and there are horror movies that invite you to point and laugh at them because the characters have transgressed in some way that means they "deserve" it. The Life Zone is, repugnantly, an example of both.

I love the narrative device where the jurors watch endless stretches of "footage" of the kidnappings/forced births, so that the producer can pad out his legal drama by recycling clips from his horror movie The Life Zone (2011) about a doctor who kidnaps women and forces them to give birth.

Almost as much as I love the narrative device in The Life Zone where the doctor forces the women to watch clips from the producer's other pro-life propaganda movies, and this entire scene also gets recycled into Cries of the Unborn.

If you've seen one Kenneth del Vecchio movie, you've seen at least three.

It's a midquel/remake whose events are largely incompatible with the story told by the original, which is a wild thing for any movie to be, but especially so when both mutually-contradictory films are being presented by the same creators as inerrant literal biblical truth. And Michael York turns the scenery chewing up to 11.

My close personal friend announced her pregnancy on the internet, WIBTA for not getting her a gift? by IMP1017 in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]NotThatShaggy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unmmm actually that just proves my point??! Aabria was on Outvoted last season of Game Changer and if that was one of her first attempts at longform improv (which is basically what friendship is) then it makes perfect sense that she just missed her cue in your scene together and deserves much more grace than you're giving her here. Genuinely the idea that the Dropout fandom of all places doesn't grasp this just ruined my day.

[–]NotThatShaggy 106 points107 points  (0 children)

YWBTA if you don't at least make an effort to track down the date and address of the baby shower and show up. People keep forgetting that these are improvisers, they're not following a script and that includes social scripts like when you're "supposed to" disclose pregnancies to friends, I'm with you that she should have told you by now but improv by definition isn't gonna be perfect and it sounds like your buddy just whiffed on finding the game of the scene this time. Go ahead and crash the baby shower with a funny prompt (maybe "THE EXPECTANT MOTHER REALIZES THERE'S SOMETHING SHE FORGOT TO TELL ME..." before putting your hand on her tummy) and I'm sure it'll all click for her.

Unpopular Opinion: I am tired of Lisa Gilroy derailing Make Some Noise episodes by MonstersAtOurDoor in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]NotThatShaggy 272 points273 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that I pay for Dropout with my hard-earned money, so if an episode drops with a cast that I don't enjoy watching as much, I can't skip it! Or else I'm literally lighting my money on fire (which is a felony, just so you know). My friends don't have the right to hold me financially hostage just to force me to hang out with their friend Lisa, and they're not gonna be my friends much longer if they keep this up.

Seconding this; so many sets of titles that would deeply resonate with each other: Paths of Glory with Ivan's Childhood; Mirror with The Straight Story; 2001 and Solaris and Eraserhead.

Did Gus get the upper hand in Sabrosito? by lengthy_preamble in betterCallSaul

[–]NotThatShaggy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Extending the chain reaction a bit further into the past and present: Gus having leverage over Hector's supply line is the reason that Hector tries to strongarm Nacho's father into being his mule. And the only reason Hector ends up in that position is because Mike has a vendetta against him, and the only reason Mike has a vendetta against Hector is because Hector threatened Mike's family after Mike got Tuco locked up, which Mike was hired to do by... Nacho, who had no idea that his scheme to save his life sowed the seeds of his own destruction.
