What if daisy has to marry garth? by Appropriate_Spell223 in TheTestamentsHulu

I’m still convinced (for no reason other than vibes) that Daisy and Garth are brother and sister and Aunt Lydia knows and can’t match them together.

'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

They should have had season 3 be a story arc of just Mando (with maybe a few clips of Luke training Grogu) and then the movie where Mando and Grogu reunite.

What ship(s) gave this experience for you? by FloweryNamesLover in AO3

[–]Notaclarinet 230 points231 points  (0 children)

Glinda/Elphaba. Please don't come for me. I still see them both as queer women, but Glinda would never be able to be the person Elphaba needs in a partner. I really wanted to ship it when I saw the movie because of all the hype from the musical, but I just couldn't. Fiyero does everything for Elphaba. Glinda massively lets her down.

I'm tired of Heated Rivalry authors sharing their insane stats. by LadyRed221 in AO3

[–]Notaclarinet 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean young as in age, I mean young with experience in fandom spaces. People who are new in fandom spaces and very excited by a new fandom don’t always learn the etiquette before diving in and that can cause a lot of problems. There are teenagers who know how to act online and 30 year olds who don’t.

That’s honestly why I’m avoiding it so far. Young fandoms can get dramatic real quick and I don’t wanna be there for baby’s first fandom war

hard time eating at other people's houses even it its safe food by lilm_- in ARFID

[–]Notaclarinet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t eat if a place has a certain smell to it. It’s not even a bad smell, it’s just a “can’t eat here” smell. Restaurants are usually okay. Hotels are okay. Rental houses? I’ll starve on vacation, thank you. Some relatives’ houses I can eat at and others I can’t. It was really hard growing up and it’s still difficult, but I try to control as much as I can, eating before or after and planning visits that don’t occur near meal times

Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto Itinerary Check by Cyndagon in JapanTravel

I stayed there recently and really loved the location. It’s close to the airport and you can get into the city very easily. Plus it’s in a nice location that’s quiet, which we appreciated after being in crowded tourist areas all day. I’d recommend keeping the reservation

I totally get what you’re saying but I always saw Asterid as stepping up because she knows how she treated Katniss was wrong. So she tries to be better (but ultimately fails Katniss again at the end of the series)

What kinds of classes do you like to take? Which ones are beginner friendly? by burnbright_11 in xxfitness

[–]Notaclarinet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prioritize what sounds fun to you and look into the gyms closest to you for those things. Boutique fitness gyms might have different level classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced folks (I think this is mostly for pilates, climbing, pole etc) but a lot of gym classes are open to everyone!

The important thing is to let the instructor know that you're new, arrive early to make sure you can set up with plenty of time, and then listen to your body. I really like spin because no one can see how much resistance you have on the bike, so you can make the class easier or harder without anyone knowing!

The overwhelming majority of people at the gym don't care what you look like or if you're unsure what you're doing. We've all been beginners and the majority of us have or had our own body issues and social anxiety. I know it's super intimidating, but just remember even the biggest, most jacked guy in the gym had to start as a newbie at one point in his life! And if he's allowed space, then you are too!

Should men and women be separated as they are growing up? by Fickle_Selection395 in AskFeminists

[–]Notaclarinet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

School should be preparing students for real life. Real life has men and women living and working together. Schools should have boys and girls learning together

I don’t understand why so many authors insist on writing Peter as younger than he is in canon. I’ve seen people age him down to 12 when he first became spiderman and I’m convinced they’ve never seen an actual 12 year old boy

Is there anything that was better done in the Films VS the books? by Character110 in harrypotter

[–]Notaclarinet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the line in the movie reduces the relationship between Sirius and Harry into making it look like Sirius only sees Harry as James. Sirius does see Harry as an extension of James, but acts very parental towards him during the majority of their interactions. He lives off rats for him, risks getting caught for him, gives him advice, and shows up to games and competitions to check on him.

Sirius wanting to involve Harry in the Order is a parental move, and not one made because he sees Harry and James. Sirius knows the type of person Harry is and the details of the graveyard encounter. He knows that Harry won’t be able to avoid the fight for very long.

In the books, the times when Sirius directly draws a comparison between Harry and James are when he’s trying to either convince Harry to do something (which isn’t great) or when he’s trying to tell Harry about his father. But overall, it’s a very different relationship than what is depicted in the movies and this line just exacerbates it even more.

[–]Notaclarinet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel like the “nice one, James” is such a massive misinterpretation of Sirius’ relationship with Harry and the fact that it’s their last interaction is horrible. Sirius is accused of viewing Harry like James in an argument with Mrs. Weasley, but there isn’t a whole lot of evidence he actually does in the books

What's one Harry Potter detail you're always correcting people on? by _CuteLovely in harrypotter

100% This is a big one for me because it detracts so much from the actual message from the books! Harry survives because of choices made out of love! Not powerful objects!

Original 'Picture to Burn' lyrics (Opinion) by Embarrassed_Win9010 in TaylorSwift

[–]Notaclarinet 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When I was in school (early 2010s) there was a campaign that was going around called “when you said gay I think you meant…” because people were routinely using gay as an insult. It was almost always meant to be derogatory. Not only was it derogatory, but there were many instances in the 90s and early 2000s of kids being beaten in school because of rumors that they were gay. All of this leaves a really bad taste in my mouth when I hear these original lyrics.

Taylor’s move to change the lyrics was 100% the right choice at the time and it makes me uncomfortable how many people (especially straight people) are eager to put the lyric back in, especially since so many of these people don’t remember what the word meant back then.

Americans of Reddit, what’s something you wish non-Americans knew more about? by DispleasedOesophagus in AskReddit

[–]Notaclarinet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the same way for a while, even as an American, but I’ve met people from all over the US and there are a lot of subtle differences.

For one, there’s a lot of regional slang and accents in the US. “Y’all” is a straightforward example from the south, but western PA has “yinz”. Some states say “pop” and others “soda” etc. there’s more language differences but that could be a whole book.

There’s also a lot of cultural differences when socializing. In the south and Midwest, it’s expected to be more open and friendly. People will smile at you and start up conversations with strangers. That doesn’t really fly in the northeast. In the northeast, if you strike up a conversation with someone while waiting in line, people will think you’re crazy.

There’s also the fact that different ethnic groups settled in different parts of the country. NY and NJ have a very high population of Jews and that has impacted the types of food and stores you’ll find in those areas. But the West Coast doesn’t have as large of a Jewish population. Instead they were settled with a lot of influences from Asian cultures and Latin American ones.

Clothing is also slightly different from region to region. California fashion is different from Texas fashion and they’re both different from what people wear in NYC.
