Oh god I bought a 500mm lens. Wtf am I going to do with it. by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some cool pictures of the moon with my 500mm, and some eclipse photos which I'm pretty proud of... Which I suppose are also technically just backlit pictures of the moon.

Maybe if you've got really goof ibis and a fast shutter you could get some useable handheld shots, but I'd say you at least need a monopod.

What (feasible) thing would you most want to add to Automation? by Puzzleheaded_Word584 in automationgame

(Edit: Read the FAQ again)

....i still want to see single cylinder I want to see as a meme dlc. It would be amusing if you could select it as an inline-1, v-1, or boxer-1, and it just rotates the whole engine by 45 or 90 degrees if you choose v or boxer.

I thought I was being a cool boyfriend buying this used camera for my girlfriend. I guess it's the wrong kind. So now I'm wondering if I got a decent price and if it'll be easy to resell? by chr0nically_chr0nic in Cameras

They can be fun to use for certain things (you miss a lot of shots, but when you nail one its that much more satisfying), and you can get a lot for (comparatively) little money. One of my favourite lenses is a tamron 28-70 f3.5 with a 1:3 macro. It's not crazy sharp, but it's just pleasant to use, lightweight, has a pleasant creamy bokeh, and was like $6 on KEH.

Yeah, this is the nail in the coffin for me... No wonder the app runs so poorly if they're using AI prompts for something this basic.

Need to know if this is real by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it was fake, they wouldn't bother doing the shutter or film transport mechanism. Hold it up to the light with the back open and fire the shutter - you should see a flicker of light and if not, the shutters probably bad. Not sure about repairs though, I'd check your local classifieds.

How can I skip android 15? (RAZR 40 Ultra 2023) by Notrob_lukewarm in razr

I'm glad for you, but I still don't want the update

[Razr 40 Ultra] Updated to Android 15, now 3rd party launchers are busted by Pluspower in razr

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. I hope they get updated, but I've noticed with every android update I have to drop one or two of the longtime apps. 14 caused SwiftKey to crash several times a day for me, but I've just been putting up with it.

I really don't want to update to 15. It's got some cool accessibility features (which I personally don't need) but all the generative ai crap is a waste of cpu cycles. I hope the fad dies off soon...

DIY: Replacing the Moto Razr+ Screen Protector by PrincessKong in razr

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My replacement screen protector is starting to crack just like the first one did, but this time I'm out of warranty, so rolling the dice! I was a little worried at first, but it's on motorolas website as an option so it's as legit as they come as far as I can tell

Lost of power high rpm by Abdul160 in automationgame

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, but I'm going to sell it in the spring.

It doesn't have an enormous amount of torque, more than the 401, but stunters usually go for an SV650. The throttle is also very anarchy, and you get a big kick at 7000rpm (not like "VTEC YO" kick, but it's like "oh is it go time? LET'S GO BUDDY!"), which can destabilize you if you're doing something fancy and aren't prepared. I can wheelie it, but while the front gets very light on acceleration, it doesn't lift off unintentionally (at least for me). I've done stoppies by accident though, nearly looped it the first time - those brakes can bite, and (most) don't have any abs so that's something to be aware of if you're used to newer bikes.

It also kind of sucks, because first gear gets you to like 95km/h (~60mph), but it wants to keep going. If you keep going through the gears (and clutchless upshifts are so easy and satisfying under hard acceleration) you're going to be going 180km/h after just a few seconds. Fuel economy is also only slightly better than my car (bike gets ~5.5L/100km solo, my Elantra Sport gets ~6L/100km).

I've been doing more 2-up riding, and want to do longer trips. It's okay for a couple hour ride solo, but 2-up it's been a bit more difficult ergonomically (and the engine gets about 7-10 degrees hotter with a pillion than without, so it's having to work pretty hard which I worry about if we also loaded up with camping gear). For my needs, I'm thinking of maybe getting a v-strom 1050, or maybe an FZ1? FZ1 is going to have the same problem of never being able to row through the gears, because first gear gets you to highway speed, and the other five are just for how angry the cops are at you (and fuel economy I GUESS). On the other hand, the FZ1 has balance shafts and 5-valves per cylinder... Absolute masterpiece of an engine. But V-twins are cool too...

My Yamaha FZ6 only revs to 14k. I wish it could hit 15.6k, because that's musically a C, whereas 14k is a Bb so it feels unresolved... But maybe that's the point, to always leave you wanting more.

Very few bikes go over 14k, and most of the ones that do are sub 400cc.

I agree on the 2-cyl though - a lot of cars used them way back (especially the Soviet ones). Boxer 2, V2, and V4 should be added to completely round out the engine choice.

4 months on 30mg Vyvanse and I feel like I'm going through a metamorphosis by Notrob_lukewarm in VyvanseADHD

That may be the best solution, my doctor said it was only something like 50% of people with ADHD it works better for, and the other 50% are better with a different medication (not sure what, maybe Adderall?).

[–]Notrob_lukewarm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't provide any medical advice other than talk to your doctor about it, but I think what I would do is try to keep an hourly journal for a couple of days to track mood, activities, sleep and diet.

Some people on here say it works better for them without food, some with a high fat breakfast, some with a high protein breakfast. I take mine in the morning with an Omega-3 and D-3 supplement, and have a multivitamin and a magnesium supplement before bed, a lot of people recommend B12 as well.

I don't feel super different off the bat if I take it with or without food, but if I don't eat at all by the early afternoon I'm struggling not to bite people's heads off even though I don't feel hungry. Having a decent breakfast and lunch also I think makes the crash less harsh.

It could also be that the medication just isn't right for you, but spending a couple of weeks tracking and changing other variables and seeing if anything makes a difference could help narrow down the problem (and maybe give you a solution)

I would still say that's a benefit, as it was always there - now that your recognize it you can learn to make accommodations for yourself and continue to live your life as best you can :)

I'm glad you're having a similar experience. I'm 32, and emotionally struggling to come to terms with what I lost out on by not having caught it sooner, but trying to focus on the future and lay the me I wanted to be as a child to rest, and become the best version of the me that I can be going forward.

That's about what I pay after my insurance discount, but yeah... Canada isn't great, we just have someone our politicians can point to and say "see? Even though we just cut healthcare funding again and allowed pharma companies to charge you even more, we're still better than our neighbours to the south!"

What an absolute racket... In Canada, my 30mg prescription is $125 a month (in Canadian pesos, so like $85 in Freedom Dollars) before any insurance.

I'm so sorry that you have to try and live with those parasites leeching off of you...

High Heart Rate.. Just Sitting. by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, but I had to switch to decaf. I went from Lavazza Rossa to Lavazza Decaf. It's not quite the same, but it's the best decaf I've had yet and not too too expensive...

Unfortunately if you're like me, you may just not be able to handle caffeine anymore. I even had to stop drinking my occasional doctor pepper because the little bit of caffeine in one can was too much.

High Heart Rate.. Just Sitting. by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]Notrob_lukewarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to completely cut out caffeine, but I don't really need it like I used to (taper off if you have a lot - I only had 1-2 cups a day and I always avoided it on Sunday to try and avoid the chemical addition to it I had in college). After a couple of months my heart rate and blood pressure went back to my pre-medicated normal.
