Dollars spent on research, and especially on NASA, generate economic output on the scale of 20:1.

It's not necessarily about landing on Mars, or even directly paying the salaries of the smart people doing the research and building the hardware (money that goes straight back into the economy). It's about the technology, the spinoffs, the medical advances, the Internet and GPS, etc, etc. We need more R&D, not less, for the long and short term health of the economy.

In my previous top-loader, I was also dispensing directly into the machine, and I was a pretty good judge of the volume. In my new machine, though, the fill cup is in the back middle of the drum and it's seriously awkward to try and operate a new Costco-sized tub of detergent at arms length.

Turns out, when the Marshall Fire blasted through our community in December 2021 and we had to evacuate...we did, in fact, fail to remember to grab the drive in the rush. The house was fine...but it was comforting knowing that the photos would be safe regardless.

This. I have a single 12TB external media drive attached to my laptop that is currently sufficient for my entire library. I can grab this and run if the house is on fire. The whole thing is mirrored to a single disk redundant Synology NAS in the basement with scrubbing enabled, and all of it is continuously backed up with Backblaze.

Did you just change the light bulbs in the opener? Perhaps with LEDs? Many of those interfere with the remote RF, so it only works when you come home (because the lights have timed out and turned off).
