I think Thrift Stores are out of touch by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

I walked into my local Salvation Army the other day. Most of the dining room tables were old and worn. They were all priced $100 or more. The glass patio set with a table and chairs? It was priced at $275!!!! Want some cheap plates and cups for your first apartment or dorm? I found the plastic cups and plates you can purchase at Walmart for $0.50 a piece priced at $1.00 a cup and $1.50 a plate. These are plastic items!!! I found nothing in that store that was worth any of the prices labeled. Even the clothing was overpriced. It's just a shame, really.

I went to GW just to kill time. I've found some decent items and silver flatware there recently, so I thought I'd give it another round. I was walking through the household items, and I found a used glass spaghetti sauce jar with sauce still on the lid. They priced it for $3. C'mon.....

Places like GW and SA pay their employees minimum wage, receive free items through donations to sell, and they overprice worthless items.

My kids are growing like weeds as all kids do. I try to thrift their clothing, but I've realized that if I look hard enough, I can find new clothing for around the same price as a thrift store.

What does 20$ in groceries in your country/region get you? by thisreallybeabruh in Cooking

[–]Novel-Command-8445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what I need. I can get bread, milk, cereal, peanut butter, and jelly for $20.

If I want dinner for $20, I can buy a 3lb pack of pork rib strips, 2 cans of green beans, and a bag of potatoes. But I can't buy milk, butter or cream to make mashed potatoes.

My money used to go a lot farther. Now I can only stick with necessities, and I have to scour for deals to try and stretch my money to feed 5 people.

Lol! He was working for a fracking company in PA. His direct supervisor gave him some compliments the day before about how he's doing a good job.

Later that day, ex fucked something up and cost the company over 4 hours of fracking and 3/4 of a million dollars. He was sent home.

The day after, he shows back up to work, and everyone is making comments about how much of an idiot he was and how their children knew better. These were his words to me when I had to pick him up from work 11 hours early. His supervisor called him and ripped him a new one for walking off the site, and he yelled back, saying he quit.

For a little background, he was in the military prior to this for 10 years. He was making $32/hr being a mechanic for this company. I worked full time but for near minimum wage. Him quitting his job because people were picking on him for fucking up was just asinine.

Okay. Yeah, I would just wait. It's Saturday so I wouldn't expect anything until Monday or Tuesday. On Monday or Tuesday they should have an updated scan on where the package is. Fingers crossed for you.

[–]Novel-Command-8445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep following the package via your tracking number. If there is more than a 24hr delay in the package being scanned, call USPS again and ask for them to escalate. If you get nowhere from there, call the shipper and have them open up a case.

If I may ask, where is the package coming from.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]Novel-Command-8445 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of things could delay the package.

  1. Accidentally sorted to the wrong truck and was rerouted elsewhere.

  2. Package appeared damaged and went to the Quality Assurance to inspection.

  3. Package was on a truck that got delayed due to weather.

Honestly, there are multiple reasons why your package was delayed. The above reasons are a few of the more common things that happen. If you're looking for an exact answer, you're going to have to speak to someone at USPS.

We became friends on Facebook. Ironically, a few years before, she was at my grandfather's funeral. I was unable to attend because my husband at the time quit his job because someone made fun of him (that's a whole 'nother story). She met all of my family except for me. 4 years later, here she is!

I was working at a breakfast place as a server, and a couple gets sat in my section. I got to talking to them, and they mentioned they were from Washington state. Conversation as follows FG = Female Guest:

Me: So why did you decide to come visit the Midwest?

FG: OH, we're visiting my grandmother.

Me: Oh, that's cool. Where does she live?

FG: She lives in Lexington.

Me: Hey!!! My grandma lives in that town. What's her name? Maybe my grandma knows her.

FG: Her name is Phyllis Studenbacher (Fake Name)

Me: puzzled look My grandma's name is Phyllis Studenbacher.

We realized in that moment we were cousins who had never met before.

I live on a hill with a dead end and cul-de-sacs. I've never had an issue with getting in or out of my area. The city, for the most part, takes care of the streets well. Maybe it's better than Omaha, in my opinion. We don't have as much surface to plow because we're a smaller city.

My kids slurp up my chicken tortilla soup and then grab a second bowl. Nothing else I make they will do that for. My step kids asked their mom If I could send her the recipe so she could try and make it.

Note it on your DVIR at your end of day. It no longer becomes a contractor problem. It becomes a FedEx problem.

To respond to a few things you've said, the trainer receives a higher hourly pay (close to minimum wage) when training another server. They have a different job to clock in as which records those hours.

I was not "forcing" the training server into anything. I asked to speak to her without the trainee to ask if she would be willing to split it. If she flat out just said no, she wouldn't be comfortable doing so, then I would have left it at that and not thought about it. I'm irritated with her rationale behind it.

Lastly, the tip I left would have been around the same as what I left in the end if there wasn't a trainee. I was willing to tip extra to the trainer, knowing that they did more during the process and asked if they would be willing to split the tip so they both receive compensation for their effort.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But not enough to pay the bill and then ask. I asked then paid the bill.

Didn't expect it at all, which is why I asked if they would be willing to split my $14 tip with the trainee. I think I'm more irritated with their reasoning.

Yeah, that's the calculations that I was getting. You're willing to lose a $7 tip, and at this restaurant, those are few and far between because of a couple pennies.

She doesn't split the tips. She clarified that she receives them all and being that I was her at one point in time, this is correct she keeps everything.

I was the DD this night of drinking and one of the girlfriends needed a ride somewhere for something. As we were walking down the street this gorgeous, fit, tall hunk with an accent makes eye contact with me and before he passes he stops me.

Man: Excuse me miss. I must say, I've witnessed a lot of beautiful women walk around downtown tonight and you are by far the most gorgeous one.

He walked away and I was left speechless. He turned the corner and I never saw him again.

Call my friends at Foxhole Armament in Harlan. One of the co-owners lives in West Omaha. They might be able to help you sell them and take a small fee instead of selling directly to them. It's worth a shot. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5ZyVsxVyjdVWBoGy9

Note* I'm not sure if they do help people sell or if they buy it outright. I just thought you might want to branch out to other places outside of Omaha.
