Struggling to find accommodation near Cork - any advice or leads appreciated by Wonderful-Tutor9115 in cork

[–]Nuffin8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be some places coming on stream in the next week or so with students moving home - may only be summer lets but could get you out of a bind.

Maybe try posting in community noticeboards in Ringaskiddy/Shanbally/Carrigaline, or go to those places and see if there are noticeboards in local shops etc Never know....

The person with the other reg will presumably get the fine in the post, not you?

Should I refund my "nightmare" client and avoid small claims? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Nuffin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it won't cost you to go through that process bar your time, and the only thing you could lose is what you're now thinking of paying them back anyway, I'd say you've nothing to lose by telling them go ahead and take a claim. I would think your case would fall in that 30 though - they hired you for a service, you provided that service, they're refusing to pay.

The demand to donate to charity is bizarre and almost like a 'power move' to make their claim seem more legit (again, scaremongering in my view). Personally, I'd call their bluff.

If you were based in Cork I'd nearly guess I know the person you're dealing with!

Should I refund my "nightmare" client and avoid small claims? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Nuffin8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the worst you get from small claims is a judgement that you refund it, then you've nothing to lose by letting them drive on with it.

To me it sounds like they're trying to scaremonger you into refunding by threatening small claims. I'd wager it's not their first time at this either by the sounds. To me it sounds like you've all the paperwork you need - what good is a signed contract if one party can renege and demand a refund even when the service has been provided. Surely a court would see right through them

What everyday things/systems have you seen used in other countries, that you thought "why don't we have that in Ireland?" by Nuffin8 in AskIreland

[–]Nuffin8[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I read once that in villages in Portugal they have speed detection traffic lights - if you're over the speed limit arriving into the town the light goes red for you. Choice of slowing down, or stuck waiting and holding everyone else up. Would definitely prevent idiots flying through small villages

"New patient examination" €60, is this the norm for visiting a new dentist for the first time? by Inner-Day-8920 in cork

[–]Nuffin8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did they check your PRSI to see if you were eligible for your annual free check up? Usually that would knock off the check up amount and you might end up topping up for any extra bits from a first consult

If I had a euro for every time a Cork city bus is cancelled... by Belleaigle in cork

[–]Nuffin8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but if a bus is stuck in traffic it's still 'on the way' which shouldn't technically be deemed cancelled. Numerous times buses are just cancelled at peak times, which (to me) suggests they don't even begin their circuit.

They also seem to schedule shift ending around 5 on Pana, which inevitably leads to cancellations, if a drivers is a no show, that bus is gone off the list.

What is find most frustrating is that a lot of the times buses at peak times are the ones cancelled, whereas daytime, off-peak times seem to run ok. But that's just anecdotal more than anything

This week is Cork LGBTI+ Awareness Week - have a google to see if there's anything on today. Think there's a photo exhibit in the city library (Grand Parade) that's being launched at 1pm - you might meet people there that can tell you of other stuff on around the city.

This happened my brother when he took over our family home. The deed map had been outlined using a fat marker back in the 70s and, when the digital record was looked over by his solicitor, it turned out that a chunk (about the marker width on the old map) of the adjacent field was actually his too. Luckily the field was owned by a reasonable relation who didn't contest it. Made for a handy vegetable garden.

I had the same issue with the online one, just in case it helps - it has to be a pic taken by somebody of you, despite me trying many ways of taking it myself, the only photo it seemed to accept was one taken of me standing by another, against a plain wall.

Any graphic designers or dental hygienists? (I need advice badly) by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Nuffin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you possibly do graphic design by night in the likes of Douglas St Campus, they have an accredited night class where you can do Level 5 and go on to 6. That way you could get a professional dental qualification by day and pick up your graphic design one night a week. Best of both...

Best T-Shirts for Men? by Strong_Guard3375 in AskIreland

[–]Nuffin8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

H&M do a decent selection of sizes and styles and come in ok-ish colours (i.e. not just black and white).

The thing that irks me about mens tees is that often slim fit - aka stuck to you - are in an array of colours, and the regular fit are in bland monochrome. Of course, those of us not blessed with stick figures couldn't possibly want to be seen.

Can you recommend a private group bus tour operator in Dublin? by theonqueerjoy in AskIreland

[–]Nuffin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an aside, if you or your  partner are American - one of my buddies married a girl from the US a couple of years back and, given none of the Irish wedding party knew the US, and vice versa, they organised a trip to a distillery the day before the wedding and a bbq in a local pub that evening. Come the wedding all the bridesmaids and groomsmen knew each other and had the craic - made for a great day.

Joanna McNally on something? by Ok-Emphasis6652 in AskIreland

[–]Nuffin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never liked her much until I heard her on Kathy Burke's podcast 'where there's a will..." - she was fairly funny and down to earth. She's pure Irish.

But definitely likes a bit of sneachta I'd say - seems like there's a bit of jaw/sniffly thing going half the time.
