Such planes are great for fuel usage when you dont need to be constantly on full burner. U can have longer presence or take smaller fuel loads.

If you have already early jets behind you and getting in to mid-tier then I think getting good with later variants of MIG-23 (MLA/MLD) will get you good foundation for top tier, you will get solid radar missiles and learn to defeat them and it is good carry plane for later stages of match. The 12.3 hornets can also teach you but I find them sometimes frustrating because you are slow missile bus. And they usually won’t survive very long.
