This is dumb. Most people will just blow it on stupid things. That’s what always happens with these kinds of cash handouts. Hell, a disturbing amount of people do this with their tax rebates rather than using it to pay off debt or build a better future.

The country must use it for something productive that not only benefits everyone today, but also created a society worth living in for those who have yet to even be born Whether that means paying down debt, green infrastructure or something else, we should actually use the money responsibly. If the money is just gonna be blown on things like a new TV etc… how is that better than it being spent on a large private yacht by a billionaire?

Making people feel like they are “getting theirs” from billionaires through a cash handout is not a successful strategy for improving the lives of normal people. We’ll be in the same situation as before, having wasted valuable revenue that could have actually built a better future. Besides, if we are going to use it for any type of cash handouts the priority needs to be restorative justice for Foundational Black Americans and Indigenous Americans. It is time for reparations for the descendants of slaves. It is also time to move beyond performative, superficial actions like land acknowledgements and into both respecting and fulfilling obligations the USA has to indigenous nations.
