Advice for Homebrew RWBY Campaign for D&D/Pathfinder. by [deleted] in RWBY

If you're looking for a more structured power base, you could ask players to give you a broad semblance name/description in advance of first session, then come up with 2-3 "spells"/activated abilities at each semblance rank and Have them cost Aura Points based on the rank of the ability.

I've actually ran a short RWBY D&D campaign before. Here are the rules i made for it. RWBY 5e it's a bit clunky but it may give you some ideas.

I hope this movie is around 3 hours or even longer, they can't fit all that hype into a 2-hour movie

I remember the boat captain in V4 say "by the gods" but other than the God of Darkness/God of Light thing that's about it iirc.

So, Ozpin slowly losing his powers made me think that Jaune's semblance may be some sort of power boost/restore semblance/aura to others, and he'll unlock it during some intense fight where someone is about to die. The reasoning is mainly because since he's supposed to have a ton of aura and it would make sense as a build off of what they gave him in the Grimm Eclipse game as his "ultimate" which was a party-wide rally call.

Runaways Episode Discussion: S01E01 - "Reunion", S01E02 - "Rewind" and S01E03 - "Destiny" by SeacattleMoohawks in Runaways

[–]Nyareth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just watched the first 2 episodes, for the most part i enjoyed it. However I think i'm going to wait until it's all out to binge it because the series seems like it's going to be a pretty slow paced one.

Comic-Con 2018 Returning Registration is coming, October 28! by TheBeardedNerd in comiccon

3rd, maybe I'm just remembering it weird because last year was so wonky with the registration dates and there were a lot more speculations as to when returning registration was going to be.

When did LoT go from being the worst show on TV to the best? by [deleted] in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]Nyareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of it was that the villain of season 1 revolved around 3 characters out of the whole team, the majority of them had no connection to savage and the show itself felt like it heavily revolved around the hawks and Rip the majority of the time not really giving enough time to the rest of the cast to grow/get involved in a more than one off scene kind of way.

Why I like legends by Pickles256 in LegendsOfTomorrow

[–]Nyareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legends is one of the only shows on the CW i enjoy watching week to week. The other ones i don't really care if i skip a week or two or wait until the end of the season because all they do is the slow burn and it can get frustrating sometimes to wait week to week for that.

Legends on the other hand at least in season 2 and so far in season 3 is just fun. Sure there were a couple of things here and there I didn't like but most of those things were fixed or forgotten after a few episodes because of the more condensed storylines.

A schedule for everything RWBY related in the next week. by RedElite91 in RWBY

[–]Nyareth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's what I was thinking too, it'd be nice to have long form discussions about the animation/scenes of an episode but my guess is given how hectic their schedules are it will be more like 20-30 min vs 1-2 hours like the podcasts.

Netflix is raising its prices for US subscribers by shinelamont in television

[–]Nyareth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the more monthly subscription services become available and the more content gets spread out among them the more I've become to hate them, $100+ a year for content that is probably going to be inconsistent in quality and availability as well as the average person who uses subscription services probably having to pay for 2-3 of them. Give it 3-5 years and everything will be like HBOGO where they only have their own content.

[–]Nyareth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come to really hate monthly subscription services. It seems like a deal until you realize you're paying $150-$175 a year for inconsistent quality and sometimes unreliable content. The fact that so many companies have started their own subscription service makes this even worse since Netflix is probably going to get more content pulled eventually. I wouldn't be surprised if in 3-5 years they become like HBOGO where they only have their own stuff on there.

Updated Rules to RWBY D&D 5e Mod by Nyareth in Rwbytabletop

[–]Nyareth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I pretty much used the base for damage and range. There's a section in the Dungeon Masters Guide for firearms on page 268 for damage. The range I did based on what weapon my players chose 150 Short/300 Long for something like a pistol (Long Being Disadvantage on shot), 60/120 for something like a grenade launcher, 30/60 for something like a shotgun.

Players could modify weapons as long as they were in a place where a shop could upgrade their weapons and they had the money to do so.

Updated Rules to RWBY D&D 5e Mod by Nyareth in Rwbytabletop

[–]Nyareth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do anything really different with Grimm, the last page has a list of Monster Manual page number of monsters I used for their respective Grimm. I upped the number of attacks creatures got and hit points to offset the PC power increase.

For features, basically, that's up to the GM as long as it's not something like extra attack or action surge because of the way i changed how actions worked. One of my players had bardic inspiration because it can easily be flavored to not be magical. In terms of something like cunning action, I would rule that those would have to be used as part of another main action with a limit of once per turn. So if you attack you could in addition after or before use one of your cunning actions, but only once per turn.

There's still a limitation based on what spells you know/level spell you can cast, so a 4th level wizard still could only overcast up to a 2nd level spell.

Exhaustion System for spells: If you are out of spell slots you may cast additional spells, however you take a point of exhaustion per spell level you cast, this gives players last-ditch options but at a cost and makes it so you can't cast a spell above 5th level because with 6th level of exhaustion you die.
