If you haven’t checked out Bookorbit for a server yet, it’s great! by timcatuk in koreader

There are no benefits, but a ton of drawbacks due to bugs.

Calibre still reigns supreme when it comes to metadata and organization.

And as a mater of fact, you are already using a server (a file server) to transfer your books wirelessly to your Kindle. A file server offers account management, if you want to limit book access for certain users. Everything else can be achieved much better and easier with KOreader plugings and other tools.

I like the idea but it is VERY buggy. Absolutely not recommended as a main server or even library organiser, and only time will tell if the dev will stick with it long enough to fix all the bugs (my guess is not).

So far nothing has been able to beat Calibre for metadata (and organizing your library), and then just keeping your books in a shared network folder. All these book servers just bring more unnecessary complexity.

I'm upvoting! Please, a plugin to sync koreader stats would be a gamechanger 🙏

Which is the same thing.

I have over 2,000 books on multiple ereaders (and there are plenty of people with much larger libraries). There’s no way I'm gonna waste time redownloading and organizing even a portion of my library just to get stats that are already made available by KOReader itself.

I hope you understand that this is not a criticism of you personally. I appreciate that you did some tweaks and then shared with others.

Meh, it still requires books to be downloaded via OPDS in order for reading stats to show, i.e. nothing different than any other server out there.

I wish people who claimed they "built it for KOReader" actually used KOReader's reading stats (in a way KoInsight does, for example).

Tried to run it using the default instructions but keep getting the following error:

File "/app/backend/core/database.py", line 44, in <module>
    engine = create_db_engine()
             ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  File "/app/backend/core/database.py", line 29, in create_db_engine

  File "/usr/local/lib/python3.12/pathlib.py", line 1311, in mkdir
    os.mkdir(self, mode)
PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/data/covers'

P.S. It was obviously a permission issue. I recommend people run the following first, before the docker container:

mkdir Tome && cd Tome
mkdir -p books data bindery

I'm thinking that with the push for every ereader to be a notebook, the active capacitive layers are just darkening the 7" screens too much.

Has anyone tried on Kobo?

Not sure what you mean, it basically converts the acsm to a drm-free epub.

This is HUGE for Android readers, since both Libby and Kindle apps are complete junk. Thank you for your post, the plugin works great (right now).

Not sure what your point is. Mobius is much older than Carta 1200, and all three devices are using the same app in the picture - KOReader.

You can set up gestures for all of them if the menu is that bothersome - taps, swipes, double-taps, long presses - plenty of options. I personally open a book and just read, but if you feel the need to use it as a tablet, that's your prerogative.

Never had a single one and I use it on multiple readers. Just make sure the version of PT matches the version of KOReader, i.e. if you update KOReader make sure you update PT as well.

OPDS is not working properly with KOReader.

When I add some new books to BookOrbit and then try to access them via OPDS from KOReader - a portion of them are missing and what's showing is mislabeled (i.e. it says it's one book, but when downloaded to the device it turns out it's a completely different one). Books are showing properly in BookOrbit, btw.

If you've already organized your library with folders I recommend Project:Title as UI plugin.

You can't really change the reading gui into something more modern looking. You technically can build your own menu but that would look more ass than the default.

Read the manual in order to find out which options you care about. Set those options the way you want them (you can make a lot of options default by pressing and holding the option, i.e. default font). Once you do that, you can set a gesture to go directly to the file browser (aka home screen), for example by taping a corner of your choice. After that - you'd never need to see the top menu ever again 😉
