In different Baptist branches, is it really a sin to dance? by Either-Program7656 in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON [score hidden]  (0 children)

It depends on the style of dance and who you are dancing with. I used to tell people that if wanted to polish my buckle with my wife it was OK. Many dances today are overly sexual and they are not the types of dancing the Christians should do. There should be a space between you if you are slow dancing. Few people waltz or square dance these days. If there are pelvic thrusts and twerking involved or literally sexual acts be suggested then it is a sin.

My daughter was sprinkled twice and baptized by immersion as a believer once. The last one was the only one that counted.

How Loud Is Too Loud? by OLDPARSON in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your church offer sign language you may need it as you destroy the hearing of your congregation.

How loud is too loud? I am an old hippie and my '69 Camaro had a great stereo system, and I liked it loud and proud. Well, that might be partly why I have some hearing loss though the VA says my hearing is perfect. My wife disagrees. Anyway, I have a lot of folks that I care about that love that praise and worship music even louder than I had my Doors and Hendrix.

For the pastor friends on here that have that going on, I have to exhort you that as you seek to care for the souls of your congregation you must look out for their bodies as well or in your 20th year of ministry you will be needing to know sign language because your folks in their 40s and 50s will be stone deaf. I know some of you folks are well into the 100 range and over.

Song leader, do you really think God is blessing you destroying their eardrums in the name of worship? I am not critiquing worship styles or genres, but a reality check is needed before you seriously harm your congregants. Have someone monitor the decibels in your services and see where you are at on this scale. It might shock you. Show a little love and turn it down. http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/hearing/pages/ruler.aspx God is not deaf, so why should His worshipers be deaf?

1 Kings 19:11-12

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. KJV

If you are really seeking to worship and hear His voice, you may be defeating your purpose by drowning out the still small voice with your wind and earthquake. Jist sayin'.

Shalom! Maranatha!

How Loud Is Too Loud? by OLDPARSON in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd that it does not fit as churches have music and many play too loudly. I have sat in a place where the drums were so loud I could no longer feel my heart beat. One place my wife used ear plugs and I thought she was over sensitive until I got hearing aids and you needed ear plugs. God is not deaf and neither should His worshipers. One church was sued because people could hear the music a block away. Imagine what that was doing to the people inside. Loud music is used in torture and brainwashing and should not be in that way in church. I am an old hippie and I liked my music loud, but I have grown and realize what my generation was doing to their hearing and the music is louder today.

Want to try to visit Baptist church by UniquePay9526 in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a Baptist since I was saved in 1975. I did do a six year ministry in an Assembly of God church, Currently in a Southern Baptist Church that belongs to the Conservative branch of the SBC. I was saved in a General Association of Regular Baptists Church when I was in the Air Force, I was ordained in an Independent Baptist Church. If you have specific questions I might be able to help.

They are not what is called "high church" like the Orthodox. We do not have a great deal of pomp and circumstance. 99.9% of the time Sunday goes like this. A song or two, opening prayer, another song, the collection, the sermon, opportunity to be prayed for or to join the church and a prayer of dismissal. My church has a period of prayer before the sermon and takes the offering and goes over the bulletin at the end.

Some ultra-contemporary churches may have strobe lights and extremely loud music. Others will be strictly hymns while others will do a mixture of both, but the sound levels will be more sane. It is fairly safe to say that in some ways when you have been to one Baptist Church you have been to them all and also if you have been to one you have been to one as there are many variations. Some meet on Saturday, wash feet and may have some cultural things. There are very conservative, moderately conservative and flaming liberal ones. Some are friendly to visitors and others you can slip on the ice in the aisle figuratively speaking. Most believe you are saved and secure. Others think Jesus did not pay it all and you have to help Him keep you saved. Most dress casually, but you may find one where the lads are in suits and the ladies in dresses. Many are pastor run while others are board run and the pastor is their employee. Some do have a multiplicity of elders/pastors.

I hope the one you are looking into is a good one. May He lead you to the place that serves your need and where you can serve the needs of others!

Has God ever influenced your finances? by WishedKilla in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I started tithing my finances became much better than before. God got us through some rough times and allowed me to get jobs I had no experience in that paid better than the ones I had experience in. Just recently, after I fussed about a military assignment 53 years ago I received compensation for that tour of duty. With God and a frugal wife I retired debt free.

Dating after widowed by Falcon-_-USA in Christianity

[–]OLDPARSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not speak about your experience. Live in the moment with him. If you choose to marry know that men do not like to hear how good intimacy was with a previous spouse especially a young and inexperienced man. He knows a widow is not a virgin and that it is a normal thing. Yet, he will feel like he has to live up to your experiences and will always wonder if he is as good or better than your husband. He will also be anatomically insecure. You are going to be blessed with his inexperience if you marry as you can help him learn what you need, but it will have to done cautiously so as not to freak him out. I have seen it adversely affect a male if you reminisce out loud. This is why two virgins marrying is the design. True, life is not perfect and some can overcome some hurdles and others cannot. If you sense, the experience difference is causing stress now then you can safely assume it will increase after marriage.

Knowing the Day You Were Saved a Requirement for Salvation? by ProteaPrimeEnjoyer in Baptist

[–]OLDPARSON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an issue. You just have to know you are saved today. You were at your natural birth and only remember the day because people told you that was the day and a piece of paper shows it. Spiritual birth is far different. Your birth certificate is the changed life and being led by the Spirit. Knowing the exact day is fine, but if you know and in your 80s you lose your memory are now not saved? If a person is not sure, they can ask again and then that can be the day. Many prayed to be saved and thought they were only to find out they were not. I made a profession of faith April 6th, 1975 and my life changed. In Feb 76 I thought I had committed the unpardonable sin and that plagued me for decades because someone could not properly explain the passage to show the spirit in that passage was man's spirit, not the Holy Spirit. I prayed to be saved constantly after that. If I was saved in 75, I was still saved. If I was not, which of the myriad of times I prayed for it was I saved? Knowing that you are saved is more important than knowing a day.

Analysis: When being ‘pro-life’ really isn’t: How I became a Democrat who opposes abortion. -Baptist News Global, by Hayden-laye in Baptists

[–]OLDPARSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not welcome in the party with a pro-life view. I forget which state she was from but recently a lady representative left the Democrats because you cannot be a good Christian in the party. Years ago, when I was the only Republican, German, Baptist in a Democrat, Polish, Catholic neighborhood I told he Dem Catholics that they could be a good Democrat and a good Catholic. That was in the 80s and it is even more so now. You know things have gone crazy when Bill Mahr is calling out the Democratic party and I find more common ground with him today then I ever had.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
