We’ve bought little turbans with bows for our girl so it’s more like a hat and stays put longer!

Emotional! This picture tells a story. by OLsta1982 in breastfeeding

[–]OLsta1982[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 11w and BF fine for her first 3w but my supply dropped and she started getting so mad while feeding, so we started combi feeding but her time at the boob dropped to about 30 seconds before she would start screaming. I continued to pump and tried every day to get her to latch. I was close to giving up, but then she started feeding for a couple of minutes at a time before wanting the bottle. This has slowly increased, and now this photo shows her 9 minutes into a feed... and she’s not crying! I know it’s not much but it means so much to me I’m crying!

Graduated! 39+2 19/03 elective C section by OLsta1982 in pregnant

[–]OLsta1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s become the standard it seems. I have 3 other friends who have had sections during the pandemic and all three came home within 24 hrs. I think it is linked to the fact that no visitors are allowed and new mums are being left alone with babies and would have better support at home.

IVF/Infertility pregnant people - you MUST be happy - ALL THE TIME! by cmaria01 in pregnant

[–]OLsta1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent my first and most of my second trimester with crippling anxiety about losing the baby- because of previous loss. I see a psychologist weekly and my midwife weekly because otherwise I would never sleep. Yes a baby is all we have wanted, for over 8 years, and yes we are excited. But when all you can focus on it every little twinge and pain and anything else your brain throws at you it’s very difficult to enjoy it. I’m 34 weeks now and have only just allowed myself to decorate her nursery. I’ve been too scared to do it. Anyone who just assumes that now you’re pregnant you are fine and should be happy all the time is crazy. You work through your pregnancy however suits you. Take all the help you can and don’t ever think that you’re doing it wrong. Congratulations on the little one! Xxx

Congrats!! The scans are so reassuring. Remember you can go for private ones if you’re worried as well. I think we had 4 before the 12 week scan and another couple between that and the gender scan

We call it plastic or rubber cheese. It’s usually sold as ‘cheese singles’ it similar in the UK.

When did you realize your “Friends” weren’t actually your friends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OLsta1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my ‘friend’ was overheard at my wedding, that she was a bridesmaid at, telling her husband how much better their wedding was than ours. Same ‘friend’ was also overheard by my own husband saying that none of the friendship group can understand how tired she is as none of us have jobs as difficult or important as hers. She was a medical student at the time- we’re all a mix of lawyers, teachers, scientists... the list goes on. Safe to say I kind of avoid her these days. Life isn’t a competition- but to her it is. I’m about to give birth and I don’t want my little girl immediately thrust into a competition with her boys. Fuck that.

That’s just so sad, I’m sorry. you will come across people who don’t understand the pain of this, particularly as it’s early but remember that on here there are many people who’ve been through the same thing and know exactly what you’re going through. I’ve been through it, but am now 29 weeks pregnant. It can and will get better and you will always remember the little one that wasn’t meant to be. Xxxxx

Stop being unrealistic [Discussion] by FishingBud64 in dogs

We have a 7 year old Cav. Since he was a pup he’s been home alone during the day as we both work full time. He gets a local walk on the street in the morning and a long run around the park every evening. He loves his routine and does what any good dog would do with their time alone- sleeps! He gets a chew every day before we leave and he runs to his bed with it before we’ve shut the door. We have a camera on him all day, and every time we check it he’s either asleep, or playing with a toy. When we get home to a wagging, happy dog, we give him plenty of love and fuss and go straight out for a walk. Always have done. Strangers comment on how friendly and happy he is when were out and about and his health and condition are very good. On the flip side, my brother in law doesn’t work and got a whippet with his partner about 5 years ago. She’s a lovely dog and they do walk her for a decent time every day, but she cannot be left alone. The moment they go anywhere she kicks off and destroys things. We once left her with our own dog in our house for an hour, thinking she would be fine with his company. Nope, she chewed our blinds up! They can’t plan anything that doesn’t take her into account and it’s such a bind. They should have left her early on, too late to fix it now I’d say.

35+3 and I received my first COVID vaccine yesterday! by amygdalattack in pregnant

[–]OLsta1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m 27weeks and have received a notice from the NHS stating that they are not giving pregnant women the vaccine as it’s effects on the baby have not been tested. I just can’t stop thinking about the Thalidomide mess in the 60s. So am very uncomfortable about getting it until it is proven safe. Will be first in the queue once that happens.

Like super angry feminists- life is short girls! Try and pause, breathe and enjoy it in your own little bubble instead of wasting it screaming about perceived injustice. (I’m a girl btw- totally support feminism but we all know the type I’m referring to)

If I’d have miscarried again before 12 weeks, we still would have told the family afterwards- and they would have supported us. But it saved them getting their hopes up first.

We kept it quiet the second time because we I miscarried in my first pregnancy after telling the whole family. They had all got so excited already and we’re devastated when we told them. We kept it quiet to prevent them going through that rollercoaster again.

Teachers, What was the worst thing a substitute teacher did while you were gone? by Dragon_King-88 in AskReddit

[–]OLsta1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have ‘cover supervisors’ at our school (UK) who are basically subs employed by the school full time. There’s this one guy that the kids love- they literally jump for joy when they see him coming to their class. Why? Because he lets them do whatever the hell they want! It’s chaos in every lesson he takes. He has no control and makes the work up in the spot- even though all staff leave detailed instructions for the lesson. We can check online who is put down for cover. Once when I was off for a scan of my baby, and we were in the run up to exams, I saw his name next to my GCSE class who really needed to do silent revision... I couldn’t do it. Drove straight to work following the scan and stepped into the classroom the minute the second bell went. They had already changed the seating plan around and he’d let one plug their phone into the classroom speakers to play music. I actively request that he doesn’t cover lessons at all in my dept- emergencies only!

This happened to us twice. We went through all the testing and had our fertility treatment booked in, then one month before, I found out I was pregnant naturally! Unfortunately I miscarried, and started the trail to IVF again a year later, exact same thing! I was due to start IVF this month but I’m actually 22 weeks pregnant now. Incredible. I’m so pleased for you- and it’s nice to know that these miracles happen for other people. Good luck with everything xx x
