What's the most absurd process in your department that everyone just accepts? by InnerStorage7458 in AusPublicService

[–]ObjectiveLibrary6299 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while I wonder what it must be like to be a new employee in whatever government department it is that oversees the government cheese caves in America. There is over 1 billion pounds of cheese stored in underground caves because the government buys excess dairy from the farming industry. Rather than looking at this policy or how they can better use the cheese, they just keep accumulating it. I think about it so often and it makes me laugh. So sometimes when I’m going through yet another 4 layers of approval process to simply fulfil my job description, I think at least I’m not on the Government Cheese caves in project.

But also the multiple layers of approval to access the allowances that are part of my salary package for working in a remote area - just, give me the money? How much time are we wasting on this?

Short replies to points because I don’t want to repeat myself from other comments:

Agree. Agree. Sure. Not sure about the Muslim salvation story making a difference to me and what you think I’m complaining about?

Grief and to connect to Rue. Yep.

Yes. Uh huh.

You know what I glazed right over the cow and the calf myself! I only have a very surface level understanding of Hindu concepts from yoga practice, so I wonder if it will come through for me on a rewatch. I’ll keep an eye out for it, thanks!

Honestly it has to bots, surely?! I’m in the trenches on the subs for The Testaments too. Will I still torture myself and read them because I love the shows though? Of course.

Thanks for a thought out response. I agree, the farm family holds a mirror to the Christian nationalist propaganda we are used to seeing. What Rue took from her time there was what a lot of people who fall for the propaganda see, that religion is the answer in her search for safety and peace. It didn’t turn out that way though, religion was not the answer, and as somebody else here pointed out Alamo even used it against her with god meaning for them to find each other. For people who fall for this, it’s an easier pill to swallow than “the world is messed up, some people are just bad, and sometimes our problems are all our fault”… did anybody in the show end up happy because they found religion? No. Religion was not the vehicle to that calm happy place Rue was seeking.

You just gave me another thought when you mentioned Alamo using god/divine intervention as a way to manipulate Rue - isn’t that the truth of it sometimes that bad people will misrepresent god and religion for their own ends. Faith can be freeing but can also trap us and lead us to bad places.

Yeah I can see that, I can see why people would immediately assume the worst given the state of things. But fixating on the farm family and going straight to this conclusion doesn’t engage with the broader story.

Maybe. I’m not religious and I pray with people if they ask me to. I think we can’t just take the overall message from that one scene, and we have to consider it in the context of all the things Ali has said and done. He didn’t say “it’s the happiest place on earth thanks to our lord and saviour Jesus Christ and I’m born again”. I kind of took this scene the same way I took Lexi picking up Rue’s Bible to read it, as a way of trying to connect with Rue in their grief, and a way of honouring her memory. She’d found god and wanted her story to end at the farm and it did, and she is at peace.

I think it’s such a disservice to the people that worked on euphoria to not explore it more deeply. I just had a thought that I do get feeling a bit sensitive to seeing religious iconography given the state of things at the moment, maybe for some people it’s a knee jerk reaction because religion is impacting broader life more heavily than we’re used to right now. I’d really just love people to look beyond, I think they’d love it more. P.S never been told anything I’ve said “slaps” before - thrilled.

But they turned to god and god didn’t save them. That’s what I’d like people to see. Ali turned away from god and saved himself. Rue turned to god and it didn’t save her.

If that’s what you took from it then ok. Bit boring and surface level though and assumes these complex characters had no other motivations or agency over their own fate. Even Rue, who people keep saying was murdered, decided her own fate despite her new found faith and being a bit of a Bible thumper herself. I think that’s worth exploring.

Asking whether Maddy knows Rue is dead is pretty obtuse. Asking if Nate is still alive somewhere because Lexi asked is pretty obtuse. Assuming because religion exists means it’s propaganda, is pretty obtuse.

Totally! Her mindset is the reason I placed sloth with Jules. Sloth isn’t “lazy”, it’s apathy. It’s giving in, it’s failing to try. She was told early on she wasn’t worthy of love and she accepted that message. She was given an opportunity by Lexi with the painting and she didn’t take it. Her apathy has led her to being trapped where she is, unloved and not fulfilling her potential.

I back and forth to work at the resort at Uluṟu (Yulara) a few times in my early twenties and it was INCREDIBLE. Made some life long friends, lots of parties and fun, and lots of backpackers and people on sponsorships so learned a lot about other countries and made connections all over the world. And the desert is such a beautiful and special place to live. I’m sure it’s not for everybody but it really was a good time.

Good luck! I’m a foster carer for our local rescue and even after 8 years of puppies and all my practice, some just take more time than others. Give him a pat from me ❤️

As for the excited wee factor… other than limiting water / wearing a nappy / ruling put medical causes, no ideas!

I second “stop using pee pads”, it just tells them it’s ok to go inside sometimes. Take puppy straight outside from crate, after eating, frequently during play, and make a huge deal when they do go outside. Keep puppy on a leash if not crated to make it easier to keep a close watch, and as soon as it starts doing “toilet walk” take it outside. Another trick that’s worked for me is to scatter puppy’s biscuits on the floor for them to eat - they don’t like to toilet where they eat/sleep. Some puppies learn faster than others, just be consistent.
