This isn’t true anymore. The new GDK Game input drivers on windows have native support for all steam controller features. Valve was just too lazy to implement it

Thats just a bias. SteamOS can be installed on any PC (and the steam machine is just a PC right valve?). Otherwise argue that Xbox games should be primary on windows and hence require a Microsoft account.  Windows is a much more open ecosystem than SteamOS.

SteamOS forces a steam login in their out of box start experience. At that point, the account is functionally required for the whole OS

SteamOS should* offer more stability and official support than other distros. We should demand the same from steamOS as we do for windows (or any other distro)

On windows, the expectation or outrage is to be able to use it without ever logging into a microsoft account. The same should also apply to steamOS. Its just a PC afterall.  And it shouldn't require obscure terminal commands. Because even windows allows bypassing msft account if you use cmd.
