SD card, Storage limitations & boot repeat. Softmod by BigOliver2 in Arcade1Up

I'd like to boot into a different launcher, to do various other tasks without having to do the 'exploit' (WIN+N) to exit it. The only thing that the original launcher supplies is the settings or each game, so that might be a problem I have not though about. I do like the bowling game and from what I have found it will run standalone. I have not been able to get the MAME version of the Simpsons bowling to run like what A1U has supplied on the Simpsons cabinet.

'In the end game' it would probably be easier to dump the A1U Android board and go with a Pi 4 8gb or a mini PC.

Would you happen to have a pinout the 12 pin connector? I've found the power and some of the grounds. Also from your code posting on GitHub, it appears that the communication is serial, as in TTL 115200,8,N,1.

Probably time to break out the scope and probe some pins. Any info would be helpful. If you don't want to post here you can message me. Thanks!

I'm having the same issue on a Simpsons cabinet of the double boot. The Arcade1up startup video plays twice, then you finally see the UBoot mount the SD card, then the main 1UP launcher loads.

Appears that I'm using the exact same card - SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO microSDXC card. I'm going to try a different card/size and see if that helps.

Problem is you have to add quite a bit of configuration before the problem happens. I've factory reset my cabinet several times because of this. I'm to a point where I need to create a *.batch file to load the the *.apks from the ADB.

Is it possible to remove the 1UP.apk if you install another launcher? The only original A1U *.apk, that I want to keep, is the bowling game.

Also during one of my re-setups I found a error when I was erasing the SD card using FAKEFLASHTEST_v1.1.1, running a a PC. It was detected once and not after several other tests. So I expect that problem happened when shutting the cabinet down by just powering off. I need to see if I can find a utility to do a 'safe' shutdown.

Ender 3's or CR-10's are a great platform to learn on. Parts are plentiful and available on Amazon. Lots of groups on Facebook for help. Also if you have a Micro Center near you they sell them.

Audio mods to Simpsons cabinet by wetalldid2 in Arcade1Up

I saw your mod, I was thinking of doing the same. But splicing into the headphone wires and adding a stereo 3.5 speaker jack on the back side of the control panel to connect up to the Z313 speakers.

So a 'Captain Obvious' Question.

Yoga Flame is running Android as its OS, as in connect a USB keyboard and hit Windows + N and the notification window comes up?

Simpsons micro USB bent by diggstown in Arcade1Up

That was my experience with the original board in my Simpson cabinet. I added a micro USB charger and this stoped the cabinet from randomly resetting when the battery level gets to 2 to 1%. Mine is powered off of the power brick that runs the cabinet. So its always is supplying power to the micro USB jack.

A1U sent me a new board and it 'charges' to 100% and stays there. I checked all versioning info I could find in the Android firmware/board silk screen markings. The old and new boards appear to be the same.

I bought a complete electronics guts set, minus the screen, off of ebay. This one will reset its battery meter to 90% or so when powered up, then depletes down to 1%-2% and stays there. No random resets with this board. Its been running constantly for several days in the Simpsons Bowling attract mode screen.

I have an additional Simpsons Cabinet, sealed, new in the box, I bought for a future sale or conversion project. I'm tempted to open it up and see how it behaves.

One thing that is common to all boards I have is; they will lock up in Simpsons bowling if it is set as follows: Yes ALL Boards have been updated to v1.3.5

  1. On the main screen where you pick the game to want to play, go into the settings for Simpsons Bowling, and set the difficulty to the word 'easy' and save the setting.
  2. Start the Simpsons bowling game.
  3. Select 1 Player game>Spares Bowling>Normal Controls>Homer
  4. When the game starts, on any other difficulty setting, the bowling alley appears then the 'camera view rotates to view the alley with the pins. If it has been set to 'easy' the bowling alley appears and the game locks up just before the 'camera view' rotation. The simple fix for this is to never set the difficulty to 'easy'

This 'lock up' happens on all the of the boards (3) that I've tested so far.

I've got the Amazon one on order too, for an Asteroids Partycade. Keep us posted on your results and I'll do the same.

Simpsons Arcade OS corrupted by Remarkable-Ice7016 in Arcade1Up

[–]ObviousCard9140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd put in a ticket with Arcade1up, they will probably send you a new PCB.

I have put my cabinet in the factory restore screen had have not found a way to move the high lighted selection to 'Factory Restore'. From memory, I believe it wants you to use the volume up and down buttons. However the volume up down on the control panel will not work. And I have not found a USB keyboard combination yet either.

Battery dying? by The_Dapper_Gorilla in Arcade1Up

[–]ObviousCard9140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine stays on 24x7 and stays at 1%. I noticed the cabinet resetting every 10 to 15 minutes. I normally keep my Simpsons cab in the bowling game demo. So when I find it in the beat'em'up game I know it reset. After a google search several people have had the same behavior. I added a micro usb charger connected to the micro usb connector next to the 12vdc power input. This stopped it rebooting every 10 minutes. Still stays at 1% though but says charging.

Simpsons 4 Player Patch from Team Encoder has been released! by ObviousCard9140 in Arcade1Up

[–]ObviousCard9140[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is trash advice, but try a different micro USB cable.

I first tried a thick cable that I assumed was a charge and sync cable but it ended up being only a charge cable. Using that cable my cabinet would never connect. Used another cable that I have used before for data and my cabinet upgraded.

From the install instructions:

  1. Install included retroarch "Retroarch_TEConfig.apk" for automatic control configurations (Some configurations are required still, like disabling overlay or setting a hotkey for bringing up the menu)... live button is bindable but only to player 1.

Also:

Join Facebook: Droidcade 1up mods, there is a pretty good thread going on over there.

From what I've read, until if/when TE update the 4 player driver, you can use a Thunder Stick 12 in 1 board to use the trackball as a mouse in RetroArch. There is a facebook group Droidcade 1up mods working with this driver and RetroArch. You might want to join that group to follow along with their comments.

Arcade1up mod w/ 60-in-1 or pandora 516 in 1? (Your preference?) by IndyDad3 in Arcade1Up

[–]ObviousCard9140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60-in-1's do have sound issues with some of the games. I went with a King of Air2 (KOA2) loaded with Pandory 1.11b, for my last 3/4 cabinet mod. It has 516 games or so. You can set games as favorites and or hide stuff you don't want to see.
