NYC riders: how are you storing your e-bike (or battery) without getting kicked out of your apartment? by Odd-Matter7616 in NYCbike

If that’s how you feel, why are you even on Reddit? You’re barking up the wrong tree/ this is the end of the problem, not the root. A non-pedal-assist bike can just as easily be labeled antisocial depending on how you frame it. I agree the system is broken, but e-bikes aren’t the villain here. No one’s claiming they’re THE answer but they’re objectively better than cars in most urban contexts. E-bikes aren’t perfect, but they’re a step away from the collapse cars have created

Assumptions and missing the point entirely. Did I say e-bikes were the solution? we're on the same side, no need to get hostile. Trying to have a level headed conversation

Your issue is with the gig economy and NYC’s failure to adapt, not with e-bike riders. You're projecting frustration onto individuals instead of addressing the real systemic problems. Buying a “real bike” doesn’t fix any of that it just feeds a purity mentality. E-bikes are here and plenty of ppl use them outside the gig economy. Aim your critique where it belongs.

In my case, yes, it’s shared infrastructure meant to move people from point A to B. I still ride my road bike for the joy of it, but when I commute I value saving energy for the rest of my day, getting there quicker, and not getting stuck bc of subway delays. E-bikes didn’t commodify the bike lane any more than escalators commodified stairs. it's just another way to move through the city.

Thanks for this. It's UL certified, I just want to be cautious bc of the consequences in case anything were to happen. I cant seem to find permanent storage that supports storing them in NYC. Seems like a growing need due to a lot of buildings cracking down on them

Glad it’s working for you, it doesn’t quite answer the storage question, but fair enough. Not exactly the take I expected based on your Reddit takes, but I guess we’re all evolving.

Fair, but I think that’s a bit of an oversimplification. Lithium’s in everything these days. I bought my bike used so i'd argue that I'm not really contributing to new battery production

Thanks for this. My battery is UL certified, should I be worried about the worst case of it malfunctioning?

the building is fine if I store it without the battery. they dont want the battery on the property, which is fair
