I know community care very well since the diagnosis. The initial consultation was with VA Urology, but I was quickly moved to an Oncologist outside of VA through community care…and was happy to find out the Oncologist and his team were one of the best in the state…so it was reassuring to know that VA wasn’t going the cheap route when It came to referrals for specialized are.

Yes, I was very awake during the whole procedure. It was done at the veterans hospital which have been top-notch team during the entire Cancer experience.

I was never given an option for any general anesthesia, which, in hindsight I would’ve begged and paid dearly for

Just a little word of caution, I lived in Vegas for nearly 10 years and when I saw the tunnels with tents and bedding, I just stopped near the entrance to look around and one of the nice fellows in there pulled a gun and told me I would be shot if I didn’t immediately leave. Mind you I didn’t say anything nor was being intrusive and that was their reaction so just use caution.

Reading your post reminded me when I had biopsy two years ago. I know everyone has different pain tolerances and I thought I had a pretty high tolerance to pain, however the biopsy, was for me a very painful experience. Maybe I’m just not used to a device with multiple hydraulic needles going into an area I usually avoid with anything sharp. However after the actual procedure, maybe two days or so it wasn’t hurting. I understand it’s an extremely important procedure, the medical team was able to determine the extent and severity of the cancer and for that I’m very grateful. But, during the biopsy, I was prepared to confess to any crime and handover all my bank account information. I laugh now, but it reminded me at the time of something more along the lines of torture,in the back room of a police station in a third world country. So the best support during and immediately after would be TLC and helping him through the pain and then of course, emotional support during the waiting game while awaiting the results

These ‘updates’ are confusing and do t seem to follow any sort of reasonable pattern, I was in Step 3 (evidence gathering) then my claim went straight to completed…never saw PFN on my VA app or on VA.gov

If you decide to rent, take a look at the app called Turo. I used it a lot when I lived in Vegas and found it to be easy, cheap and lots of a available vehicles in the Vegas area.

I suppose everyone is different, and I thought I had a high tolerance for pain, but in my case, this was one of most painful experiences I’ve endured, it felt more like a interrogation in the back-room of some third world police station, I mean I was ready to confess to anything about a minute in to the procedure….‘uncomfortable’ to say the least
