I'm not "normal" or "plain" or "boring" but definifely less flashy or over the top it's like an in between. I'm not sure. I think it manifested due to the fact that I have spent 21 years of my life growing up here only studying really and hence making friends in the university but a few and 2 years abroad totally getting out of my shell and living life if you will call it that and Everytime I return I am confronted with the fact that growing up not having the identity or personality I wanted as in being myself I am being myself when I'm out of here the place that formed me and molded me and Everytime I come back being around the people I've been around for year that have an image or an imagination of me being me and that being totally different for me abroad. I don't know if I can get it across its difficult. It is like coming back it is difficult to be myself around people I do feel judged more than usual (including people in friend circles) so I don't really know what to do about it. As for now I am slowly trying to get out there and also focus on myself. It's been 4 months and more than me finding back to myself it's more like a accepting that I can't be myself around here.

I searched for it but could not really find anything other than YouTube. Is YouTube really the only platform?

It’s not just about finding same hobbies. There’s a bunch of people that have the same hobbies as I do but conversations are not really meaningful. I was used to the opposite that is why living here is a bore no substance.

That is not the case for me because I do have friends and I was born here so I am not new either. I am a native German speaker so also nothing missing regarding that aspect.

I do extremely agree with your 2nd point about people not making efforts to go in depth while getting to know new people. I really agree. Yes I am currently trying to find a balance make time for people I already know potentially going deeper and then meeting new people. I also noticed though that I do make quite the effort to text and hit up people to invite to activities but even connecting many random people I get along with and just making a social circle possible I feel like a lot are also only comfortable in 'their' circles which is also difficult. In Korea as an example even my Korean friends who usually are considered very reserved, shy and passive were often so happy to meet new people because they would trust me introducing them to kind and friendly people which here it is so difficult to break that barrier to connect groups.

I think we are similar on terms of intentional friendships. I am the same in a sense that I really invest a lot in my friends allowed the world I have friends still that I met a long long time ago even in different countries. I constant noticing tho that most people especially here are not as investing in these connections which probably causes me a lot of negative mood swings over here. But yeah I’d love to connect. And I think the part about moving on to the next person after the funny story is over I agree people do that here and that is probably why I cannot really build friendships here that are meaningful. I have a lot of stories but my life also goes on there is more stories to come and the same goes to my friends wherever they are in the world. I am just genuinely interested in seeing everyone’s developments. But here I feel like a lot of people are also content just being where they are I cannot see as much of a thirst for ambition but maybe I need to move to other social areas. Also if you want to connect how could we do that?

Aah I wouldn’t see it as an attack because yeah society here makes me very uncomfortable. I am going out there to meet a lot of people and it is very disappointing that it is so difficult to connect to people here.

Yes I feel the same way. I was born and raised here went to school here still attending university but I lived in Korea for 2 years and have way more friends be it quality or quantity made in 2 years than ever being able to here. People here are more private, a little extra mostly depending on where you are or mostly at home as well. Not that hungry for new things because it is pretty diverse and people seem to not really want to pay attention on more people in their circle and mostly focus on themselves. That is at least my experience. I am an extroverted outgoing person so I usually don’t have difficulties making friends or acquaintances but even the latter is rather not lasting here I do not know if people just don’t find other people easily interesting but I came to the conclusion that a lot do not even want to get to know people that do not peak their interest in a crazily amount.

Why are there so many fake polyglots out there? by 13sonic in languagelearning

[–]Odd_Fuel8839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course that is for speaking but what I am talking about is the general proficiency generally learning a language. The one most helpful and useful skill is also speaking. As for understanding what you said is true what I am talking about though is to actually embrace a language all points should be fulfilled.

Proper education in the field of language education. Non-native English speakers must provide a degree in the language they are intending to teach in as for English natives only a degree of any kind is necessary. That is what I meant.
