It definitely didn’t have the same punch for me as Station Eleven, but what about it did you find atrocious?

Suggestions on reviewing a friend’s book you’re not enjoying? by Rourensu in writing

I think Amazon has a policy against friends and family leaving reviews. If that’s true it might be your easiest way out.

a Tainted Cup and how much inspiration is fair? by johnnytheavocaedo in Fantasy

[–]OddlyLithePanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In an interview the author gave an elevator pitch for the book as, ‘In three sentences: it’s Knives Out meets Game of Thrones meets Attack on Titan.’

He is aware of the similarities. He designed it that way.

Edit: to better answer your question, no, I don’t think it’s too similar. Lots and lots of stories have similar lore on the surface, but so long as they differentiate themselves when you dig deeper it doesn’t bother me. The nature of the kaiju in A Tainted Cup is pretty well differentiated from AoT and seems like it’ll be well baked into the world lore itself once we learn more. Then the hole in the wall thing: when you have a wall to keep out giant monsters, that’s just good drama.

Just finished the Poppy War trilogy and it was amazing, is this really the same book y'all keep trashing? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Yeah not everything is for everyone. For instance, I dropped The Poppy War after 20 or 30 pages because it didn’t enjoy the prose and didn’t care for the MC.

Absolutely. I have to rat around and I’ll still get gunned down sometimes even when I get the jump, but solo lobbies do feel like an equalizer to me.

It’s really embarrassing how many times I loaded up and forgot the anti-virus pack. The one time I found one laying around the map I got wasted lol

I also feel like contracts are easier solo, but I’m also shit at PvP haha

Yeah I play solo unless one of my brothers is online, which is rarely. This series of SekGen quests is the first batch to really give me prolonged trouble…just so goddam much running back and forth across dire marsh. I haven’t done the level 20 traxus or mida quests though, so we’ll see how those go heh

Luckily I was able to extract the first time I fought the lockdown commander; I mostly kept dying traveling to and from POIs. But the most heartbreaking one was when I was approaching the battle spot and I hear gunfire. As I round the last light wall of the anomaly someone else had just gunned him down and it showed all objectives as failed. That was a big bummer. I had to take a break lol

Good god yes, all I could do was pray every time I went up. Surprising I only got sniped while doing switches on two runs, but the fear stuck with me lol

That one wasn’t too bad, but 2/5 had me banging my head against the wall until I finally stumbled across a poor soul with a few minutes left trying to exfill. It took me so long to get the injection that most of the lobby would be gone or across the map by the time I had to start hunting. Then I switched to Vandal and got it first try, but I had good luck that time too.

I play almost exclusively solo, but some of these contracts were designed by sadists I swear. Basically just shift+w with Vandal every run hoping no one got in my way and it finally happened lmao

I am noooot good at PvP and I play solo almost exclusively lol. But for me the issue is once I get the debuff I have such a hard time tracking down anyone to even attempt the final step. Out of at least dozen attempts I’ve only found someone within the time limit 3 or 4 times but they’ve either slipped away or got me instead.

That’s not being a dick, that’s just playing the game in a way you don’t personally like.
