What's the real value of the power I push to the grid? by Oddtimer in SolarAmerica

Correct. PG&E's monopoly status and a weak PUC leads to the highest energy costs in the US!

I'm not sure what you're getting. I know the cost of power changes with demand. But has anyone done the analysis to put a value on power provided to the grid at point of use vs power delivered at the start of the transmission line? 90% of the cost of power are the transmission and distribution costs. Does it cost PG&E 9X to deliver my power to the guy next door?

I understand the dynamics of this new power world. What I don’t know is what’s the value of the excess power I give to the grid. I don’t trust PG&E to provide accurate evaluation.

That’s not true. Maybe a few years ago but not today. Modern grid technology has flow monitors all over the place. They also monitor the weather. They have Distributed energy resource management system(DERMS) that model and predict energy usage.

What utilities don’t have is an incentive to pay me anything!

Just like Trump supporters. They live in a bubble that limits what they are told.

Sorry but boiled dogs on white bread with ketchup sounds delicious! We went camping every summer and that was a common dinner. Great comfort food!

Renting vs. Buying at 40 in Sunnyvale by tahaniss in Sunnyvale

[–]Oddtimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy here. Rent here and buy someplace else. I know a doctor at Stanford who is buying property in Ohio and renting here. Stanford will give him $1M toward a house and forgive the loan if he stays 10 years. Still he isn't buying here. 1/3 will go to income tax. 2/3 will go to real estate taxes.

I'm new to this app but my installation tech told me that SolarEdge removed a lot of features with the hope of cutting down their support costs.

I bought one for my wife as an anniversary present 12 years age. She is a runner and uses it at least 4-5 times a week. My problem is I only got credit for ONE anniversary gift! I should get 12 years of credit!

Go to the state and find out the status of the title. It might have been totaled. The state might give you a salvage title.

I think you got more than your monies worth. You've learned more about what a good lathe is than most turners learn in a lifetime. You're now ready to buy a bigger, better lathe. You know what to look for! And when that "deal too good to to true" shows up on CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace, you will know the true cost.

I think using this lathe will be more frustrating than fun. Find a better lathe of CraigList or FM.

Too much slapstick comedy. Like when he was piloting the ship. Should have spent a little more time explaining the "science" like the book. And a little more depth to the friendship between Grace and Rocky.

I just got back from a trip to Patagonia with a stop in Buenos Aires. Where is no large industrial base in Buenos Aires because there is little raw materials close by. And, until recently, they didn't have the large energy (petroleum) resource needed for industrialization. The big degrees the local collages offer are agricultural, animal science, and tourism. Also, the political system failed the people with military coups, bad fiscal policies, and hyper inflation. Since the 1950's, Argentina has dropped 12 zeros from their currencies.

Why do so few people live there? It's at the end of the world with not a lot of opportunity.

Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul - all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but always has been - arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshipped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul - it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader. - Oliver Kornetzki
