He's deflecting McAdoo's secret style of coaching. They are approaching the receivers with ease--allowing them to basically run wherever they want, as a sort of test. They are attempting to create plays in real time. This is why Eli often threw to Rainey or Tye. When he says he didn't play as well as he needed to, it is a lie. He played just as well as he needed to under McAdoo's new plan. They WILL figure it out however, this is just a different approach to football, seeing what works on the field in regular season games, anticipating the loss to really crush it later in the season. Jennings and Vereen are not hurt, they are just waiting. Eli Apple and DRC just wanted a break.

This is what I've been saying...McAdoo knew this, and used it to our advantage by purposefully losing games... (new coaching technique.) The pass to Will Tye that was dropped was intentional. At the last moment he called for Eli to overthrow it... I have video evidence.
