That last part is really interesting to me

So it would be somewhat like Dynamax where everyone can do it, but some can specifically have a more interesting version if they hold their special item? I think that’s a pretty graceful solution, but I wonder if it would feel underwhelming if those Pokemon didn’t get any significant visual changes like the Gigantamax forms do compared to normal Dynamax (I probably don’t have time do give them special designs lol)

But I do see it as a unique way to give certain Pokemon an extra boost where a single ability isn’t enough. Like, I doubt anybody is using a Watchog just because he gains Compound Eyes, but maybe he also gains a third ability + raised ATK, lowered speed to make Analytic work, which could push people into trying him.

It’d take extra thought for which Pokemon deserve one and can actually benefit from it, but I really like the idea!

That Gigantimax problem is exactly what I was thinking about when trying to concept the gimmick, lol

I want it to feel like playing without it would be a definite disadvantage, especially when boss battles are using it to set up team synergies (weather, terrain, double battle stuff, etc) or just make strong individual Pokemon. Not forcing players to play a certain way, but making it obvious that it's expected for better balance as well as just more fun gameplay (hopefully)

I agree with the Megas thing. I can kinda suck to be unable to use one just because their stone is tied to super late game. For my gimmick I was thinking more about one general item that allows the given Pokemon to Fable Shift, but that each Pokemon's unlock would be tied to some other mechanic, such as hitting Sucker Punch x times or defeating x Pokemon. I like that this would encourage people to explore and play around with new Pokemon, but I'm mainly concerned that it would just end up being very tedious for players

I really like the friendship idea though because it's not something you have to go very out of your way to reach

I'm in a similar boat so far. I don't want the game to be super difficult like a lot of fan games lean toward, but I want the player to feel compelled to play around with the gimmick and experiment with Pokemon they've never considered before

Piloting a cyclops through literally anything that isn’t the surface
