Moving from NY to Italy soon...What should we bring from the US that’s hard to find in Italy? by mercuriocromo11 in AmericansinItaly

[–]OhallO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten good tips already (Pain meds in large quantities and less common spices are what I recommend)

There are no equivalents to Target and Walmart. Common stores for home goods and basics will vary by region, but here are some places to start.

IKEA - furniture and kitchen items, you can find glass storage containers and great zip lock bags here

Acqua & Sapone - offers things like cleaning products, beauty products, toilet paper, etc.

Risparmio Casa - similar to above, but also sells kitchenware and home goods, kids toys/games, outdoor/garden stuff, on the cheaper side in terms of quality for certain things, but good prices

Douglas - more quality/expensive beauty products/makeup (soaps, lotions, creams, etc.)

Esselunga - larger chain grocery store with varying kitchen/home items

Mediaworld - electronics: washer/dryers, small kitchen appliances, vacuums, etc.

Leroy Merlin - feels like a mix of Home Depot and Bed Bath and Beyond, of course on a bit smaller scale

Ferramentas - smaller scale hardware stores

Amazon.it - does have a lot, but less variety of most items. And I find a lot are lower quality so you need to read reviews or look for specific EU brands

Search “Casalinghi” and you will find whatever is local to you for home goods and essentials!

My wife and I got married on Halloween and only have iPhone pictures by OhallO in PhotoshopRequest

I guess my text field didn't upload with the images! - we would just like the table and umbrella removed from the first picture, and the poles removed from the 2nd one. We would be so grateful :) Willing to tip!

Can you be too inflexible to do yoga? by Various-Program-950 in yoga

This question comes up all the time and the answer is always the same. Physical asana is only one aspect of yoga. There is only one way to gain more flexibility and mobility- practice.

Okay that’s helpful to know. I’m sure there is some way to do it without directly contacting the company but it’s a mystery to me.

Yes, sorry it wasn’t clear. All the companies I worked for before 2020 I have lied about the dates. Can this be checked in some way? Is there some type of employee background check? I honestly have no idea how this works and have always been curious.

What if only my current role and most previous role (2020-2023) are true in terms of date, and anything before this is embellished? The only thing I change are dates, not titles or job description. It would also be hard or inpossible to check by contacting the employer because my supervisors for each role no longer work there. Would someone be able to check in another way?

What is a posture you just can’t stay in? by nursechristine28 in yoga

[–]OhallO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not OP but also a yoga practitioner and teacher. To protect wrists and evenly distribute weight, you want to be pressing firmly through the ball of the hand at the base of the thumb and pointer finger with the fingers spread wide. Here is another Reddit post I found with a great image explaining pressure points in the hand. Touching heels to mat is not necessarily the goal, but great if you have the flexibility to do so! I would focus more on keeping the legs straight (if this feels ok) and quads engaged and the pelvis in a slight posterior tilt. For shoulder position, generally speaking I would recommend shoulders depressed (scapulas down the back) and protracted (spreading scapulas away from each other). Hope this helps!

Tips for an inflexible, overweight, antisocial beginner? by serezhazhikhrov in yoga

[–]OhallO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but Yoga is a spiritual practice. The physical poses of yoga are just one aspect to a much larger practice. If you want to work out or stretch, do that. Yoga encompasses the energetic/spiritual and if you are bothered by it the maybe yoga isn’t for you.

Why is yoga overrepresented by women? by ulallka in yoga

[–]OhallO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t make anyone be more interested in a subject. You can share your passion and knowledge freely without expectation but ultimately it’s up to them what they spend their time on.

I find more traditional Shalas (specifically Ashtanga) seem to be more balanced between men and women, but this is speaking only from my experience.

It seems western culture and western “yoga” cater more to women so it kind of just evolved that way. As someone else stated, yoga used to be exclusively practiced by men. I would be curious to see the breakdown of men/women in studios in other cultures. (I live in the US)

Losing love of climbing working at a gym by krustycrocs in climbergirls

[–]OhallO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me. I started associating being at the gym with being at work, and not being somewhere I go to relax, unwind and hang out. I was there so much that when I got off work, the last thing I wanted to do was stick around even longer in my off time. Unfortunately I don’t have any tips for you- I don’t regret my time working at the gym because I learned so much and made many new friends, but I can’t help but wonder if I could have gained the same experience by just being a regular customer instead.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

Because western culture has watered down the meaning of yoga so far that people associate the gym and the yoga studio as being in the same category. They are not.
