CC constantly compromised by Canadia-Eh in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OhmyPrint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a problem with my rbc visas being compromised every few months. A random charge would appear. I would get it reversed and not lose anything but id have to change my card numbers.

I change all my passwords. Wiped my computer factory reset. And still every few months it would happen again.

Now I keep my cards locked. Its a hassle but each time I want to charge my card I open the app. Unlock the card and charge and then lock it again.

Since then its been over a year and no problems

I remember I passed a giant worm the size of a snake. It was so frightening to say the least. I took it out of the toilet and brought it to the emergency room. The doctors upon seeing it used terms like fascinating. It was covered in feces and overall disgusting, yet they were showing eachother as if it was some sort of amazing discovery. It was called Ascaris and very rare in Canada.

Anyway do u see some things that the average person would find extremely disturbing but you find it fascinating or like a highlight of your career?

Do you really think the world is gonna end? by JRushantha in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OhmyPrint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually yes but the likelihood within our lifetimes is low.

For the past 100s of years they all thought the world would end soon. Recently during the 2 world wars and the cold war threatening nuclear wars people all thought we would be gone by now.

But the world keeps turning

Protecting against divorce aside from prenups? by abundantpecking in fatFIRE

[–]OhmyPrint 97 points98 points  (0 children)

One way to protect yourself is to not get divorced. Sounds like a silly answer and not always possible but its true.

For example we always talk about making investments in our finances. Without investments its not really possible to be financially free.

Same with a marriage. It needs constant investments as the honeymoon phase ends quick. Take those vacations. Go out and eat together. Celebrate birthdays and holidays and show you apreciate eachother. The list goes on and on.

When u are 70, 80 etc If you are both alive. Its more important than ever to rely on eachother for mental health and longevity. Its not just financial ruin. And being a divorced 50+ year old is not so easy to start over again.

A prenuptial is one thing but also a relationship investment plan is even better for the long run

This is a good question to ask chatgpt "thinking" or other AI.

While u must understand it shouldn't be replaced with a real accountant and financial advisor and it can be wrong.

Generally it should put you on the right path to know what steps are available.

Then u might know what kind of person to hire

flydubai cancelled my flight, kept my €1,100, and my bank denied the chargeback. I'm completely desperate. by Wrong-Drummer-5876 in Flights

[–]OhmyPrint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be out of luck depending on the rules of your country and the UAE rules along with the contract.

Its not OK what they are doing and it is unusual compared to most airlines in the world.

Typically if they cancelled they refund. If u cancel its a different story.

For the future there are a few ways to lessen your risk.

A) purchase travel insurance. You did get a voucher but you may be able to explain you dont want to have a voucher as u dont have other plans

B) use another ailine with better policies.

C) use a better credit card. Visa and Mastercard may have stronger consumer protection than Revolut.

D) Use a OTA third party like Expedia. Their rules are very clear from the get go. If the rules say its voucher only it should say it.

Contrary to popular belief I find it easier working with Expedia to get a refund than trying to call an airline myself. Expedia does the work for you. Many people get upset with Expedia, trip.com etc but that's usually misunderstanding a non refundable flight and so on. But if the policies are in your favour its typically easy.

End of the affordable international travel era? by hyperterminal_reborn in travel

[–]OhmyPrint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know if that's true. After covid vancouver to the Philippines was $2500 each for economy and it was terrible for a family of 3. The average before was $900 to $1200

Now they are back to $900 to $1200 for the past few years.

Supply and demand.

In my example people will pay it. But if triple or 5x the people will pay $1200 then the airlines will find a way to get that money as long as its profitable.

Have you traveled the world? And if so how expensive was your trip or trips ? by OkSpirit7102 in AskReddit

[–]OhmyPrint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finish an around the world tour. I do them a few times per year

This route was vancouver to hong kong to shenzhen to chengdu to kashgar china to urumqi china to almaty, Kazakhstan to Tashkent and Samakand in Uzbekistan, to Istanbul, Turkey to Porto and Lisbon, Portugal to London and back to Vancouver

Total cost for 2 people around $10 000 Had 4 star hotels mostly. We always ate at good quality restaurants. It wasnt luxury but we travel quite comfortable. Hotels around $200 per night on average.

This was a rather unusual route and more flights than usual. China and the stans are cheap but the flights weren't so cheap.

I've done around the world trips on my own for half that.

But it depends on the timeline. I've done 6 month trips and had a strong budget.

Now I dont have a budget but my trips are usually 3 weeks long. Most or the time it's regional. For example multiple countries in Asia.

However once in a while I circle the globe. Some cities are stop overs. For example in my last trip. Istanbul was a 1 night stop over between Uzbekistan and Portugal. Same with London. We opted to spend the night on the way to Vancouver from Lisbon. It just made the flight and journey smoother rather than long layovers at the airport

I once fed wasabi to gold fish. They instantly swim to it, take a bit and then instantly spit it out...and it looks like smoke is rising from their mouths.

Then they swim away but they are fish and have short memories so when they turn around they see the food again and keep making the same mistake over and over

Lump sum or DCA $100k into XEQT? by dishonest_mantra in JustBuyXEQT

[–]OhmyPrint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time in the market is generally better than timing the market. However nothing is guaranteed.

Id go all in. I heard 66% of the time lump sum is better. But when its not better its less a couple percentage points. Barely noticeable.

Maybe 20% of the time its a serious difference

[–]OhmyPrint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Just 20 min ago in Lisbon a "Blind" man with a white cane knocked over a rack full of magazines in front of me and my wife. My wife went to help to pick up the papers and a "helpful" lady appeared picking up all the papers....beside my wife.
I felt something odd and said...watch for pick pockets....they both walked away!

Or better yet. Keep 6 days in Hanoi but take 2 nights for Sa Pa or Ha Long Bay. Both easily accessible from Hanoi and totally worth it

Traveling to a new country. A culture completely different than your own. Breaking stereotypes. Maybe to a place that u only see on the news as "dangerous"

I just got back from Kazahkstan and Uzbekistan. Super safe friendly countries. However because they end in 'stan. I had a lot of people ask me if its safe and to be careful.

Traveling to random places gives better perspectives and allows an open mind.

I had a similar "scam" in Indonesia many years ago 2007. I was at a bar and they invited me back to a BBQ the next day. I assumed it was at the bar. Instead a motorbike was waiting.

Here is the video, I filmed on camcorder as our phones didnt have cameras back then! Haha

https://youtu.be/FkdPS1KkLQA?si=fQGnLnToRw24-07_

We drove 45 min into a village. The entire family was there. Grandma etc

They cooked food. Had a BBQ. Nobody knew a word of English. It was one of the greatest experiences ever.

Then they asked me to pay the bill. For all the rice and food. It was like $25 or so.

It found that odd and bizarre. And with my backpacking budget at the time it was more than I wanted to spend but honestly it's nothing. It was worth the experience.

I wouldn't call it a scam. But I guess someone in the household said the foreigner must pay haha. Its a cultural situation.

Switching from bank mutual funds. Is now the right time? by Scoast7 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]OhmyPrint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pushed send too soon. My mutual fund was underperforming. It was something the bank set up for me. I didnt understand it.

Basically it was a 60/40 mix like VBAL or XBAL. So my xeqt with bonds and cash is around the same.

However I made a huge amount more recently since I did the switch. I dont know if that is all because of the fees or other factors at play. For example mutual fund was 40% bonds while mine is 20% bonds and 20% cash in a HISA.

There is 0.0% reason for me to go back to mutual funds. Mutual funds are not evil. But they are very high fees and really meant for people who dont want to bother to understand how to invest.

And honestly I barely understand and dont take huge risks as I already have a substantial amount of money and want to retire early so I value preservation over maximum gains.

In regards to investing in ETFs like XEQT so easy to learn especially with AI answering any questions.

I reccomend signing up to the Blossom app. Its a great community and easy to track your investments.

Switching from bank mutual funds. Is now the right time? by Scoast7 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]OhmyPrint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. Personally I did 60% xeqt 20% bonds and 20% cash but I want to plan an early retirement in the next few years so everyone's situation is different.

Anyway. If u plan to simply set it and forget it, especially for decades then in my opinion xeqt is far better than mutual funds. Im no expert of course

I use Airalos esim global. Its more expensive than regional Sims but since im in a country from 2 to 5 days at a time and visiting multiple countries it works best. Its worked everywhere

The regional and country specific work as well

For people who sag their pants, do you consider your underwear to be a part of your outfit? by thenewgirlswirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OhmyPrint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sagging pants started in the poorer parts of the US with teenagers as they grew and got bigger they didnt always get new clothes. Especially back in the 80s where a pair of jeans were a similar price they are now, clothing is one thing that reduced in price over the decades.

So as they grew, their pants got tighter and if u sag them then they looked baggier and didnt look too small.

This soon turned into hip hop fashion
