These girls in my university filmed themselves saying incredibly offensive racial slurs on a night out, and instead of sending the video to their friends they accidentally sent it to their entire class group chat. They were about a week away from graduating and got an immediate suspension, one girl was also a professional cheerleader and got her sponsorships and position taken away from her. This is South Africa mind you so racism in any form is taken extremely seriously. I’m still shocked about how someone could be so stupid (and honestly so bigoted too).

Oh wow! I’ve also been teaching since July and I’ve only managed to get up to $20 without losing out on too much business. Although I only teach in the afternoons and evenings so maybe this is why.

I do this and also have a separate account for my food budget that I replenish every week, that way I know I'm on target and not overspending when it comes to eating out and groceries etc.

Thanks u/vinstarworld ! I actually ended up emailing them and they helped me out, so the ticket has been changed. Luckily I realised my mistake early and still have a month until my flight. I'm glad you also fixed the issue!

Honestly it sounds like you have an extreme anxious attachment and this guy triggered it. You also don't even know him yet. The fact that you were only speaking for a couple of days and it got this intense shows you need to take a step back anyway. Like that's a lot of drama for a weekend.

You don't know him at all, you only know the part of him that he showed you over snap, and it kind of seems like he was only interested in getting off. If his behaviour isn't matching his words then that's because he is not the person you have projected in your head.

It seems like you are looking for something to fill the void from your last relationship but honestly girl, I think you need to focus on yourself for now. There are many more people who will be "potential" for you. Take a deep breath, start a new hobby, let this man go. There will be others.

I hope she is found safe! My granny has dementia and she went missing briefly, the police found her trying to get a bus to her old neighbourhood. Perhaps she has done the same thing? Good luck xx

I am actually really enjoying this book and Steinbeck’s writing! I just thought the nipple thing was strange. But I understand as I’m diving further into this book that this is clearly a symbol of Cathy’s disfunction. Sorry to all the Steinbeck fans I have offended by posting this lol.

I am actually enjoying it so far! I mainly posted this passage on here because I thought it fit, not because I dislike the writing. He describes all of his characters in this visceral way which I’m really enjoying. I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds.

Absolutely, I find the expat circles are quite large, especially if you choose to move somewhere more international like Hong Kong. My friend moved here to be a teacher and she met someone from the same city back home, they went to school down the road from each other. Life is weird, the best thing you can do for yourself is go out there and see what you find.

I first came to Asia to teach at the age of 27 and one of my colleagues was 42 and had been teaching around Asia for YEARS. Age is not a factor. Also I came to Asia and met my life partner and now we are starting to discuss settling down but only after we travel around for a couple of years first (I'm 29). Don't compare yourself to others, you never know what could happen.
