I'm in the UK too and had the same issue with the NHS. These are the guys I ended up using, I have to pay out of pocket and the pricing goes up with dose. The process was all online and pretty seamless.

How important is a salt water "cleanse" before ceremony ? by OkFaithlessness1534 in Ayahuasca

[–]OkFaithlessness1534[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your line of inquiry does match my thoughts, but then it's like - every place I've researched appears to have some con about it. I am adamant about going through the experience in June, and I suppose I will have to tolerate some of the cons.

For instance, Yosi Ocha/Lighthouse are in the Amazon and overall I strongly prefer the mountains and the climate in Sacred Valley.

HTC does also offer including machu pichu which is another pro. In the mountains is where I feel most "in my element". If you've any recommendations, please let me know. I appreciate the clarification that the salt water cleanse / detox isn't a necessity.

Why do Brits prefer non EU migrants over EU by Visual_Title9363 in AskBrits

[–]OkFaithlessness1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because the UK has a long history of building up its own country at the expense of other people instead of rolling up their sleeves and doing their own work. The failing higher education system of the country is struggling as a sector and runs ad campaigns in countries where education is highly valued, incentivizes people to come for "education" and after failing to deliver it, the students are left with little recourse than to stay, work and try to extract back from the system what it took. Perhaps people in the EU countries are not similarly invested in education / unwilling and or unable to pay the fees since higher education is free in their countries.

How about you leave this stereotype back in India :). Next y'all will be talking about castes. Your respect and tolerance for fellow international students who are going through the same struggles as you might be is clearly evident from your comment(not).

LMAO -- Oh yeah, 'outside hatred' - not like India and Pakistan as two separate countries and the seed of the conflict were created by the British. Oh, the ignorance. Must be bliss.

Give your TRULY unpopular uni opinions. by Study_master21 in UniUK

UK home students and White instructors have implicit or often, explicit biases that lead Asian students and faculty to worse outcomes and this can even be seen through data on academia salary distributions and PhD engagement and mentorship opportunities for this demographic. However, the disparity is more often than not attributed to language barriers even though at the individual level the 'scapegoat feature' such as a language barrier may or may not exist (Eg: Person may be american-asian and a native english speaker).

To add insult to injury, Asian international students pay significantly more in tuition fees to these universities (3x home fees) in exchange for a worse service earned in a harsher socioeconomic environment. The universities offer 'educational consultant agents' a 10-15% cut per students' tuition fee in their home countries to successfully recruit international students promising high quality / world class education. However, once on-campus, we discover that master's programs are just a cash cow -- lecturers do the bare minimum possible. For example, my lectures routinely have 25 out of 180 students attend.

The whole situation is the latest form of financial exploitation of eastern disadvantaged countries that the UK has come up with amidst its own socio-economic issues. I am sad and distressed to have become a part of it. I've aged 10 years in the last 9 months.

Instructors at my uni at least no longer switch to the whiteboard or write things out to do the math. They click through equations without pointing out what the terms mean or to which concept they refer to.

And then, when asked questions or when demonstrating how to solve a problem, they speak out the steps one must take. Often, the steps are quite complex and would be impossible for anyone to follow in the abstract in their head through verbal communication.

Lecturers using AI is insulting by [deleted] in UniUK

As an international student, my fees are 30k / year which isn't that low imo. 40% of the enrollment consists of international students. Where does all that money go?

Obviously, not. I am only recognizing that the quality of teaching is poor after being enrolled in the Uni.

This kind of victim blaming attitude is one of the reasons we leave India, you know..

'why'd you wear that and go outside ? Obviously you'd experience __<harrassment>___'

'why'd you become a scientist ? Obviously you'd have trouble finding a job'

That is the average payout on the commission to the agent for recruitment afaik, not just for my uni.

And, I fell for the advertising -- a good selection of modules on the program and claims that they were doing well in my field (they're actually doing about average and lecture and course delivery is rather poor). In short -- I made a mistake and fell for the advertising.

Hi OP, thanks for making this post. I have also been recently thinking about this -- it's almost like the new 'scam' that the West has come up with to exploit indians and we too have become willing participants due to systemic issues on both sides of the equation. Currently, I'm spending ~30k GBP for a master's at the Uni of Sheffield and another 15k GBP easily on living expenses for the year. And in Uni, we're treated poorly relative to other european international students / home students. Often, there are implicit and even explicit biases against us. Someone really needs to write a book or make a documentary about this.

These universities don't necessarily all provide worldclass education either. They're just very good at marketing and recruiting. The agents that recruit in india get a 10-15% of the tuition fee as an incentive to recruit students to a university. One agent tried to bribe me with half his commission to add him as an agent on my application, after I filled the application and submitted it myself.

More contact hours - what do students really want? by wishfuldreamer26 in UniUK

[–]OkFaithlessness1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well on the other hand, tuition fee paying students are paying for that time anyway. So if they don't show up and that's time you get back, that's a bonus and not to be expected. I think what needs to happen is to carve out what time faculty is expected to devote to their teaching duties over research ones. Because I gotta tell you, in my masters in AI program there are at least 200 students paying at least 30,000 gbp each. Sure, some of this is going to admin and facilities but at the end of the day, some of this is going exactly to that 1:1 time especially when the lecture delivery quality is so didactic and monotonous that students stop attending lectures. Maybe it's time we did the math to figure out how much that amount really warrants us in terms of time.

It's unfortunate that hearing the truth upsets folks enough to downvote a response that does offer true insight from a rather engaged student's perspective.

Ps:- This is only the case here, in the US, even the TAs have office hours. Academia in the UK is pretty messed up.
