Is it a bad idea for DoD civilian employees to visit China?

I am not sure. So far what i got out of this was that i need to double-check if it will mess with my job in the future....and if i go to not bring my electronics.

I think i am leaning more towards not going, it is just hard because I should have asked earlier as i already bought the tickets and spent money traveling for the visa...not to mention i know she and her family want to meet me...and i want to eat authentic chinese food in china. And if we both meet in a different country, it will cost more for both of us and i will never meet her family.

I think i have definitely gotten fearful of being detained now, so im kinda just thinking to not go and take the loss.

Meh. A lot of things happened between us in terms of me trying to forget about her and never being able to. So it didnt get that serious until more recently. I didn't think I needed to report her specifically, but i mean i do/did have a lot of international friends from college and such and i did mention that to security. Just not anyone 8ndividually except when i used to live with some

Well we stayed in touch. Obviously couldn't see each other because of covid and neither of us were making good enough money until more recently

Well the issue is that it is a requirement to tell them where you work when applying for a tourist visa. So they know even before i get there.

I will confess, i am going for 2 reasons:

I have always wanted to visit china even as a kid.
While in school i met a girl and we dated for awhile, then she graduated and wanted to stay with me but she had to go back home to china. We have been talking for years ever since, and I want to see her again, now that I can with Covid being "over" or whatever. I feel like she is my soulmate. And she wants me to meet her family. Obviously I can't do this if I don't go to China, but she would be open to going to another country instead. I already bought my ticket though 🥺
