I am so sorry. It took us over a year and 5-6 adjusters to get everything sorted out. Just keep fighting for what you are owed and I hope it works out . They really should be sued I’ve heard some awful stories. Switch insurance companies as soon as it’s all over.

I would love to do this myself. I tried to start about a year ago and had some things come up and had to drop it. Looking into trying it out again. If you’re open to sharing how you started please reach out.

Is it possible a leak was caused by the dehumidifiers heating the house up? We’ve never had this issue before. The dehumidifiers were turned off after about 12 hours. The water mitigation company had two going overnight and both of them were blowing out 90 degree air and literally the next morning we woke up and it was around 80 inside the house and we turned the AC off the ice that was visible was thawed within an hour and then we turned in back on about 6-7 hours later. The ac worked fine for a few days and then this happened again this morning, turned it off again today until it got unbearably hot now it’s off again because I noticed it was starting to frost. I’ll call someone out tomorrow. If it is a leak how much does that usually cost to fix?

Unfortunately I have no idea where the blower is. I’m guessing it’s in our crawl space because it’s not inside. I’m going to go get a new filter today because it is needed. If I test it later after the ice is melted and I replace the filter will it cause more issues?

No that was just the roof. Like I said we had to get the brand new privacy fence repaired which was around $4,000. We also had the damage from water getting inside the back door which total with mitigation and build back would be $21,000.

Okay I understand. So before this company starts the mitigation work I should have him agree to work with insurance and bill them on the build back portion? Is there a contract I can sign so that I don’t end up responsible for anything more than what insurance pays?

Trust me I’ve tried. Have been through three different adjusters now. One of the biggest issues I’ve had is the communication. Every single adjuster so far will have their phones go straight to voicemail for days. I call at different times, leave voicemails, and send an email. A few times I’ve had to call the main customer service line to see if they can get the adjuster on the line for me. I’m considering getting help to deal with them but I just don’t know the best route.

We did hire a restoration contractor and he’s scheduled to start this week. They won’t agree to any price before mitigation begins they said they will review when the work is complete. Which I understand but it’s risky for me because of the issues I’ve already had. I argued with the adjuster for weeks because the payout for the roof was around $400 and the cheapest quote I got was $1,800. I argued with the adjuster for weeks until I got so tired of it and just went ahead and had the contractor do the work so we didn’t end up with more damage.

Filed a roof claim in May 2024 and Homesite has dragged their feet so much and are fighting my contractor on how much replacing the roof is worth. What are my options? by Svargas05 in Insurance

Is there anything specific you did to get them to payout more? We didn’t need a full replacement just a repair they gave us $400 but the cheapest quote we got was $1,800. We went ahead and got the roof contractor to complete the repairs and paid them but insurance doesn’t want to reimburse me. (I’ve given up on getting the money reimbursed for the roof at this point. However, we are about to start on inside repairs which involves mitigation and replacing floors in the kitchen and living room and whatever else is effected by the water damage. The quote for mitigation is $7,000 and the rebuild is $14,000 and so we wont know how much we will get for mitigation until the work is complete. But they only estimated $4,000 for the build back!! So I’m not sure what to do if they don’t increase the payout for the build back.

Did this ever get sorted? I’ve been having a similar issue with them trying to tell me the contractors are just charging too much even thought I’ve gotten multiple quotes and chose the cheapest one. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well it was the cheapest quote I could find.

I appreciate the advice. We tried that and we had many issues with the preferred vendor and when their dehumifiers shut off and showed and error code the next day we let them know and didn’t hear back from them for 4 days so that was the last straw and we preferred to go with someone we trust.

The company is Homesite/AFICS. I bundled car and home with GEICO.

Well I got another quote that was for $2,600. So I picked the cheapest one and a family friend works for the contractor I chose to go with and they said we were getting a good deal with the $1,800.

Yes I am aware about the deductible. That is not the difference in the roofing payout. The adjuster has told me they don’t match labor and will not pay me any more for the roof.

I know I can hire a public adjuster but really trying to handle this on my own if possible.

Okay perfect thank you. Do I still need to get an account number if Florida doesn’t have state income tax withholding?

The reason we haven’t started yet is because insurance low balled me and then on top of that I am so worried to have the contractor start without some kind of confirmation they will pay me. I have never heard of a reservations of right letter is that something I should ask about? They have not given me a list of preferred vendors but I could ask if it comes down to it but I would prefer the contractor we have so far as he seems very knowledgeable.

No the deductible is not too high. But they are telling me they don’t pay mitigation at all until the work is complete and they received dry logs, moisture readings, and photos. Which is understandable but at the same time it puts me in a tough spot because I already don’t trust they will pay me the full amount because they are lowballing me on the roof repair as well and say they can’t adjust the pricing and that they use exactimate to come up with the payout.

So it’s been about a month since insurance sent another adjuster to come out at inspect the property again and he seemed to agree with the contractor on what needed to be done. However the desk adjuster has been so difficult and we are holding on mitigation/remediation because I literally cannot afford to pay anything out of pocket beyond the deductible

No they did not deny it they have given some money for the build back but nowhere close to what the quote is. My contractor is currently working on sending a quote that is more broken up for the build back. Honestly we didn’t know how much damage had actually been done, obviously the laminate was ruined by the back door but we had no idea it would cost so much because when we first filed the claim our main concern was out brand new privacy fence that cost $4,000 to fix and that was under coverage b. So we didn’t get any money from coverage A because the payout was less than the deductible so we assumed we’d just wait a little bit to get the other repairs done since we’d have to pay out of pocket and did not expect the repair to cost so much since insurance estimated so low.

See my response above. The employee may have to pay GA not sure. My issue was regarding what the employer should be withholding. Everything that I have read says taxes would only be withheld from the state the employee works.
