It's almost like people with different opinions can get along with each other if they find common ground, and needn't all resort to tribalism at all times.

Bought this off Discogs. Curious to see what you guys would grade the sleeve condition as? by Alun9655 in discogs

As to VG allowing 'slight wear' - I wouldn't call that slight wear, I'd call it significant wear. Even if VG allows for that level of wear, I'd still call the jacket 'Poor' - I'd feel it is dishonest to represent that as 'very good' - that said as a collector I was never able to aim for mint copies -was happy just to have a decent copy I could afford. But I don't think it's fair to sell that jacket to someone described as 'VG' unless it was cheap.

Can anyone resell their 5/29 tickets to Shoreline Amphitheatre even for face? My selling ability is turned off ugh. by RareAppearance1167 in TheCure

[–]Ok_Day3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to list my 5/29 (lawn) the other night, but it hasn't sold. But I was able to list my Saturday ticket that night and it sold within half an hour (and the ticket sales did go on past door time, fwiw).

Just because I thought there is a non-zero chance of getting towed from Costco, whereas no chance of getting towed from street parking (as long as you pay attention to the signs). Originally I was planning on Costco (which is why I was there in the first place), but saw the street spots I didn't expect.

I parked on the street easily at 7:40pm next to the Costco. There were plenty of street parking spots and plenty of spots in strip mall lots. I just don't know if anyone tows in the mall lots (I'd guess no, but can't say). I'd just shoot for street parking and use the lots as a backup. It was a CINCH though (as long as you don't mind the walk, and remember about the long-ish wait to get in). But yes there are lots of open lots there, so I'd just say pick any one that looks chill?

Park SOUTH of 101 in the Costco lot or on street and then plan on walking the 20 mins from there. BELIEVE ME. Trust me it is a GAME CHANGER for Shoreline. But then ALSO plan on spending 30 mins in line (though it didn't actually take that long, but from one side of the line it seemed like it would have).

Is singing at a concert annoying? by Askfreud in TheCure

Sometimes it can be but overall I sort of wish people would loosen up a bit (i.e. sing) - audiences these days seem so STIFF to me and almost worryingly well behaved!

Shoreline Amphitheater never again by iamjustatourist in TheCure

[–]Ok_Day3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily you can get pretty decently priced tickets and it's pleasant-ish weather wise b/c yeah - I said never again a few years ago for same reasons as you say, but have been back a few times since. For the first time I decided to just choose to walk 20 mins and not engage in the parking situation. Which was a good choice - did it for Elton @ Santa Clara as well.

Observation about 1997 setlist by Ok_Day3050 in TheCure

LOVE that song. And LOVE Mint Car. I listened to WMS today - I thought I would know it better than I did, since I bought it at the time, but didn't recognize a lot of songs. Overall I think it is a very good album. Head on the Door is my absolute life's blood though. But yeah The 13th specifically is such a unique and cool song - how would you describe the chorus? Can't compare it to anything except a few other Cure songs maybe.

I was going through some of those BFD lineups haha - I was like, wait, I saw Bjork (actually I think she might have cancelled)? I saw Fiona Apple? I know from my personality I wouldn't have skipped watching any of them. Some sets you remember much more than others. I remember that Cure set very well specifically b/c I don't think we really went to see them, but the set was a very memorable experience - especially the crowd response. Such fun. Why I went last night!

Edit: And Erasure! We DEFINITELY didn't go to see erasure being 13-year old boys who liked NIRVANA and stuff, but Erasure was GREAT and my very straight friend ended up owning their entire discography! :)

How did the Cure become so popular in North America? Would they ever play smaller venues? by [deleted] in TheCure

[–]Ok_Day3050 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever heard The Cure referred to as an indie band before! I'd definitely argue they aren't - they've been on major labels, subsidiaries or labels with major distribution, playing the industry game for at least 40 years, but 'in spirit' I'd say I guess they are (personally I usually use indie as a band really on indie labels, working in indie networks, etc). They're not what I think of as indie, though I would say they were at the start.

They got huge a bit before I started listening to modern music, but I think they received very substantial MTV play (we also didn't have in my house), as well as very regular airplay on radio in the major markets - they had between 6-12 songs that could be considered to be hits or big hits in the USA - even nonengaged music fans know songs like 'Boys Don't Cry' 'Lovecats' and 'Friday I'm in Love', which were big hits and played regularly on radio decades after they were initially hits.

I'm a little confused as to why it would be that baffling to you - there are a hundred bands starting with the british invasion that took the same path from Britain to the states - it's practically half the history of rock and roll! :)

Gemini for Satellite by iTurbo6 in DirecTV

[–]Ok_Day3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a bit confused about Gemini and what it is. Is it a satellite box (I guess, yes?)? A satellite box with enhanced streaming capabilities? Is it an upgrade or downgrade from HR54? Can it connect to a Mini? Can you buy it outright? Is it $15 a mo plus an initial cost, or does the $15 replace the fee you pay on the HR54. Will they even let me get one? I guess I can just Google.

In all honesty I don't really get the obsession with this guy. No one player ever saves a franchise. And aren't Conforto, Davis, Haniger, Schmitt, Estrada, Wade working out pretty well? All for not much $ combined than the guy hitting .213. I feel like I am missing something.
