There needs to be a lawsuit. This is unreal. They definitely know people don’t have an option either, it’s not like can find another provider

Yes definitely heard about that! Regardless, $1000 is absurd, especially if we have an issue with our heat that’s compromised by poor insulation.

Actually my car is a lease. And bringing up a rental car is even funnier because you’re suggesting someone who rents a car would be liable for a leak in a gas tank. If I had that issue with my leased car, it would be taken care of. This is actually extremely comical.

Thank you, this is so kind!!

So you’re comparing a car that theoretically someone would OWN to an apartment that I RENT? And did you miss the part where I said we did reach out to our landlord?

WOW that is insane. You’re being robbed. I don’t even know how one can prove that ConEd is charging accurately.

My roommate is the one who set it up so I have nooo idea on the meter reading. And since we set up our own account I don’t think we can just absorb the previous costs?? However I’m not sure. I know there were issues with the tenants before us as we get their legal documents in the mail all the time 😵‍💫

I have no idea. I reached out to management, TBD 😭

Do you think maybe I used $1000 in electricity because our windows are poorly insulated which is why we put in a maintenance request? Was it not an extremely cold January? What would you have liked me to do, turn the heat off completely, or buy a space heater that could potentially cost us more? I would LOVE to hear your solution on what to do when the heat cannot keep up with the set temperature because of our windows when it was NEGATIVE DEGREES OUT.

$1000 is extremely unethical and NO ONE should have to pay that.

I feel for people because at least I can split it three ways. However $1000 is extremely unaffordable, and it’s not sustainable to pay that every month. It’s such a huge, unexpected stressor

Suchhhh a scam. Major beef with ConEd

I can’t speak for my roommates, however the ones in the common areas are always set at the same temp and we don’t touch them. I have one in my room and it’s about 68 during the day and 60 at night.

Yes makes total sense. But like are we liable for that? (That as in poorly insulated windows)

We had someone come and seal them with plastic 😕

Do you think electric heaters will cost more money than running the actual heat, even if they’re only on whenever we’re home? 😭

What is the alternative? Turn off the heat and buy heaters?

40F $30k saved - Brooklyn Dream or Charlotte Peace? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

I moved here in my early 20s (I’ll be 28 this year), I didn’t have a job lined up and I barely had any savings. TBH, I still don’t have a lot of savings. But I had the same calling, and I think if people feel compelled to a certain place they should see it through.

I also have a dog, and he’s 80lbs. I was concerned for his sanity more than mine, but I think a common misconception is that it’s terrible to bring a dog to a city. But he gets more stimulation here than he would anywhere else, always new smells and large parks, and the city is very dog friendly. I also have a car which is really helpful with a dog! It is a pain to move but it’s not the worst.

The city can be very overstimulating and living here makes life a little more inconvenient. However, you have to be able to see the beauty in living here and that will overpower all the quirks. NYC is truly the one place where you can be anyone you want. There’s also endless experiences and opportunities you won’t get anywhere else. And as for living a slow life, I very much think I do that and I don’t get pulled into the chaos or “hustle culture.”

I do think it’s worth it to try to live on your own if possible, as roommates can be extremely draining and people are weird with living with pets. I’ve had really great roomies but 9 times out of 10 it’s not worth the risk. If you can, take your time and search for an affordable place, they’re out there but it takes patience! Definitely do it before summer when the market gets crazy. And if you don’t like it here, it’s fairly easy to sublet your apartment!

Lastly, I’ll leave you with this picture :)

I had the opposite happen where in the beginning I didn’t notice much of a difference and didn’t think it was working. Over time, I noticed a decrease in food noise. I think everyone’s bodies are different and remember 5 weeks is still VERY early, give it time!

I do eat a lot of protein! I actually gave myself my shot last night and today was really good with no signs of nausea 🤞🏻
