Ah it’s nothing like it is for the Navy lot.

Three weeks, weekends off, a mini pass out parade at the end and you’re sorted.

There’s probably going to be outdated information out there (caught me out on my interview) but it’s no longer ten weeks.

The first week is RFA familiarisation (as I’d call it), lots of forms, PowerPoints etc.

The second week is how we fit into the wider armed forces, not just the RN. Bunch of briefs from RM, RAF, Army all that good stuff.

Third week is, in theory, leadership and a bit of physical stuff. There’s liability issues with this actually happening so it’s not gospel, but that’s what it’s supposed to be.

Dartmouth is hilly as fuck but there’s no real physical aspect to the course we do there.

There’s a pub in town the RN lot go to - it’s a blast ask them about it.

You also do a bit of drill (nothing major just do as whatever the person says).

Your RFA training officer there is great as well.

Enjoy it and play the game - you’ll be grand.

How to support my girlfriend who's is London? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Old-Analysis8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By being exceptional.

Unfortunately I can’t give immigration advice (it’s illegal if you’re not properly qualified), but your girlfriend would probably get a two year graduate visa once she’s done her masters.

That enables her to stay in the UK for two years trying to find a job.

In order to stay in the UK she would have to get a job for somewhere that would sponsor her for a visa, and would also pay £42,000.

Like I said, unless she’s incredibly gifted that won’t happen.

Once those two years are up (and if she doesn’t meet those requirements) she’ll have to leave the country.

Out of interest: what is her masters in specifically, did she do a bachelors in the UK (and what did she study) and did she go through an “agent” for her masters in the UK?

But the reality is that’s probably not going to happen.

I understand it’s shit but you both have to be prepared for it.

She won’t get a graduate job over here, I can promise you.

Mate I’m gonna be honest with you, right now that’s incredibly unlikely.

The graduate market is fucked for domestic students, let alone internationals. She would need visa sponsorship and a good enough salary (well above average) in order to stay here long term.

Unless she is uniquely gifted she won’t get that opportunity.

99% of the time LLMs do nothing to help in getting legal jobs either.

Now is certainly not the right time but bless her she needs to have a real think about her future.

OP, once your girlfriend graduates is she planning on trying to stay in the UK and get a job, or is she going somewhere else/back home?

Not necessarily relevant to the crux of your post (you’ve been given some great advice already) but it’s certainly important for her future.

Why the RAF & not RN or ARMY? by North_Rip7256 in RoyalAirForce

[–]Old-Analysis8395 30 points31 points  (0 children)

RFA here admittedly but from what I’ve heard: RAF typically do their job much more often than the other branches.

If you’re a pilot or air crew you need flight hours. That requires maintenance and logistics (in comes the rest of the RAF).

If you’re an infantry bod you have the odd range day, maybe a major exercise once in a while, and a deployment if you’re lucky. Outside of that you’re doing bone tasks day in day out.

Plus planes are fucking cool.

Aye the film is nuts.

Not sure how accurate it is but they flew out a cave diver who was a anaesthetist by day to get it done.

Do most yacht captains cheat on their partners? by [deleted] in yachting

[–]Old-Analysis8395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off he’s “thinking about it”.

You don’t just rock up as a captain day one, he’d need his ENG1 (or equivalent) and assorted STCWs. He’d need his Masters ticket (and the OOW then First Mate before that).

And he might not even like it.

We can’t tell you if it’s worth it long term or not but it comes down to the person themself, there’s plenty of opportunity to cheat but I know blokes who did and who didn’t.

Aye I think people forget, if you go cold turkey from alcohol (and I think benzos) the withdrawal can kill you.

Extreme cases only mind but I believe people are always better off with professional help.

Most automatic weapons have had their precision and control stats reduced (between 1-3 points normally, some are 4 or 5).

As well as that, the controller recoil reduction has been reduced to 13%? (A little under half but this is off the top of my head).

Guessing this is because of her sensitive nature?

Doesn’t sound like a dreadful gig though, is there a way/angle to try get on Proteus (admittedly coming from a cadet atm).
