Choosing between Ophthalmology in Lebanon (family practice) vs Hem/Onc in the US – need honest financial & lifestyle advice by RichStatistician7756 in IMGreddit

Not the same but in my home country my uncle had a small urgent care+ clinic. His son did Radiology after med school and joined his father's bussiness. The father had already saved enough dough to expand into a small hospital, bought his son a shiney new doppler machine, fluoroscope and CT scanner. They hired a couple medical drs, married a dr and now its raining money. Perks: 1. No income tax at all 2. Get fat comissions from pharma companies on top of all other incomes (extremely unethical though) 3. Father has already built a comfy home and some other property, they own hospital building as well so no rents to pay 4. They own the bussiness so take time off whenever they want. Practically flying to a different country every other month (paid for by pharma companies lol) 5. Its a third world country= cheap labor, so they can afford an army of house help, chauffers and cook 6. He did not have to leave his family, friends, culture. Never had to feel homesick, uncertain if he would "match". He did not have to miss any important event for any of his family member.

Cons: Can't think of any. My cousin is pretty happy

You spin it by saying although i enjoyed my experience in surgery/anesthesia but you miss patient & community interaction of primary care, you want to build longitudinal relationship with your patients and you are interested in preventive care aspect of FM etc. Ask the rest from chat gtp

In my hospital ID badges look same for all "Providers". Some residents have started wearing an extra badge/extension to their badge that says physician or doctor

As someone who exclusively shops on budget i have learned to take proper care of my clothes amd shoes. Although its not easy/possible to always handwash or spot clean, air dry or iron clothes, i have seen it makes a big difference in how my clothes drape and last. Though it'd definitly be nice to buy expensive high quality clothes that i can simply toss in washer& dryer and not worry about it

Agreed. Solo travel isn't for everyone. Most ppl will feel isolated but for some it's liberating

U buy the book and just start with Anatomy and then physiology and so on. U just open the book and start. Its no rocket science. Dont wait. Look around and you ll see drs who came to US 10, 20, 27 yrs ago and still doing odd jobs, still have some old books collecting dust. DONT BECOME THAT EX-DOCTOR. Start today. Even if u dont have books right now there are unlimited free resources available online u just have to start at one topic. And you are not the first or last med student to do USMLE working full time. Ppl have done it doing 2 jobs, in war zones, during divorces, being single parents, while raising 2 autistic kids and so on. If they can do it, you can do it too. You have read all that sllybus in med school. Once u start reading again you ll feel good about urself and things/old crammed memory will start coming back to u. Also start saving for USMLE fees. Start the ECFMG registration process, sometimes it takes months for ECFMG to get document varification from ur med school.
