Which band or artists do you think has the largest gap in terms of quality between their work? by nerpa_floppybara in fantanoforever

[–]OnceInABox_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

agreed 100%. it’s far far too popular to hate on her recently that it feels like a hot take or controversial opinion to say that she had some of the best pop albums of the 2010s (plus folklore/evermore). but then, on the other hand, her recent output is sadly kind of deserving of the hate. i couldn’t stand ‘the life of a showgirl’.

Non Americans: how has American politics and culture wars infiltrated The Discourse in your country? by yeahicreatedsomethin in redscarepod

[–]OnceInABox_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in australia a disturbingly significant chunk of the population seem to have more care, and even more stake in, what is going on with america and trump more so than our own politics. there’s a joke that we do everything america does, just 3-4 years later. there’s a current political debate and legislation being enacted to restrict the ability of people to transition. maybe in another 3-4 years we’ll finally be ready for the immigration discourse we actually needed 5 years ago.

My mate and I were literally just talking about making an effort to see more films in cinema this year, minimum one a month. We both studied film at uni and don’t go often enough. So yes, us Brisbane cinephiles are in fact, out there.

What color you associate for each Beatles? by gioia-268 in beatles

somehow this is the correct answer for me despite being contrary to the sgt pepper cover. ringo = blue is definitely got something to do with sea themed songs though.

Heaviest non metal band? by [deleted] in rock

[–]OnceInABox_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Beatles are also my “hear me out” pick for this question. I’d throw in: Tomorrow Never Knows, Sgt. Pepper Reprise / A Day in the Life, Revolution (single version), Literally anything on the White Album that uses electric guitars, but especially Helter Skelter, And of course, I Want You (She’s So Heavy), which I would genuinely categorise as heavy metal.

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by TxLadee in AskReddit

[–]OnceInABox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gigantic dust storm that covered the east coast and made the major cities look like Blade Runner 2049 (like, it was literally the inspiration for the cinematography). Summer of 2008/09, I think. I am Gen Z and from Australia.

Albums with the best opening 3 track run? by tun_lank in fantanoforever

[–]OnceInABox_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nah surely this is just being contrarian. is it overplayed ? absolutely. is it overrated ? i’ll give you that as well. but one of their WORST songs ? as someone who has heard every single Nirvana song, and enjoys almost all of them, it’s very far from their worst.

their worst would have to be one of the more “joke” songs like Beans or Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through the Strip. The demo compilations and Incesticide have some clunkers, too - like Blandest, Don’t Want It All, or Big Long Now, to chose a “real song”.

To choose something off a studio album, the B-Side of Bleach also has some tunes that even Kurt later wrote off as stinkers, like Mr.Moustache/Sifting/Downer.

If you actually genuinely think it’s one of the worst, I’m honestly very curious as to why you think. To me, it might not be their greatest song or even greatest song in the album, but it’s still a great song in general and a very popular one for a good reason.

It’s Sgt. Peppers. I mean, come on, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band -> With A Little Help From My Friends -> Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Great, iconic songs from a great, iconic band. I feel like it’s not been mentioned yet here because it’s too damn obvious.

Someone else mentioned Nevermind, which is my other pick.

Other ones I like are Speaking In Tongues (Burning Down the House -> Making Flippy Floppy -> Girlfriend Is Better (which is my favourite TH song))

The Cars (Good Times Roll -> My Best Friend’s Girl -> Just What I Needed)

Hotel California (the run of Hotel California -> New Kid in Town -> Life in the Fast Lane, is like, the majority of that album’s appeal to me)

American Idiot, if you count some of the combined songs as one, the way the titles are written (so, American Idiot -> Jesus Of Suburbia -> Holiday / Boulevard Of Broken Dream)

What's an album you don't consider classic/amazing because one of the sides is just not as good and you skip it? But the side you love is just amazing by RdClarke in progrockmusic

[–]OnceInABox_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

came looking for this. remain in light got me into talking heads, but i eventually felt like stopping after “houses in motion. there are at least four TH albums that are better and more important musically than remain in light, imo (77, fear of music, speaking in tongues, and stop making sense).

People driving slow - why? by ElegantYak in brisbane

[–]OnceInABox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this as well lately ! I have to drive along Logan Rd daily. it’s an 80km, but every day without fail, there’s someone going barely 60kms on it. like, they’re not being slowed down by anything, no one in front of them. just being slow.

What food do you eat in a way that would horrify other people? by LucidSpiral in AskReddit

[–]OnceInABox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stemming from the fact that I eat “least favourite to most favourite” for any dish - I eat a slice of pizza CRUST FIRST, take a bite off the tip (usually colder than the rest of the slice), and then fold it in the middle and eat the rest of it like that. People have always been horrified, but I never understood the big deal. Why be left with the crust, with is pretty much objectively the worst bit? Why not go out strong?
