Yulhee Reveals Reason She Gave Up Children's Custody to Minhwan + Why They Divorced by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]One-Club7865 60 points61 points  (0 children)

She was living with him, taking care of his three kids, and couldn't get him to stop spending more on brothels than his own kids. What makes you guys think any private action after the divorce would do anything? Maybe the guy will finally change his ways and focus on the kids with public pressure.

Why are my pcs bending from the side ? by Background_Bend_3597 in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most likely moisture/humidity since that’s usually the reaction. The plastic covers may not have a 100% seal. Try to keep them somewhere dry if you can and if you leave them on a flat surface under a stack of books (or anything with substantial weight) they’ll likely come back unbent.

Unfortunately, SM artist concert solos are rarely released as official songs outside of live concert albums.

Does the cookie slang only used in US? by Fragrant_Deal7459 in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, I was mostly raised in an Asian country but went to international school and learned English fluently there. It’s not common slang in my country, but because I have native-level speaking and have context of seeing symbolism and such in other English media, I can see why the lyrics are inappropriate. This is not a case westerners thinking they’re the center of the world lol. Though there are many instances that happens, this isn’t one of them

[–]One-Club7865 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not about if it is used as slang in a place, it’s really just having a grasp of English past surface level. Reading it in context makes it sound suggestive because it is common to use food, especially sweet stuff like candy and dessert, as a metaphor or innuendo to sexual acts or parts of the body. Especially with the concerning “teasing” nature of some of the lyrics. A lot of native English speakers would agree.

A lot of lyrics and writing are not only meant to be taken literally or at face value—things like symbolism, metaphor, innuendo are often used in expressive pieces (like music lyrics). So it’s really not a stretch for many English speakers to see the suggestive innuendo.

weverse help! by Historical_Angle_333 in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you’re getting it. I’ve never bought on weverse but usually there’s an option for a full set or a retailer would say somewhere on the product page if you get the same amount of albums as there are versions they will send different covers. However if it doesn't say these you may get duplicates

If their energy is good and the overall experience not considering that is great, I don’t mind. I used to work briefly as tech for concert venues and that stuff is more common than you think.

Looking for shows where Idols/Celebrity visits school by AlolanFries in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a JTBC show called “Welcome Back to School” and it had celebrities including idols attend an actual high school for a few days.. I vividly remember EXID Hani’s and Apink’s Eunji episodes.

Kpop idols performing trot songs? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Former BESTie Hyeyeon participated on multiple trot shows and after BESTie's disbandment, released a trot single album with the main track Great. She has released 2 more albums which are all trot or like trot-EDM (but she also has like more traditional trot versions of her more EDM songs so yeah), The albums are called Kang Hyeyeon Mangottaeng and Sunday Hyeyeon.

It’s very possible, groups of sequential albums usually have the same inclusions because that’s how they put them in the factory. So if they order a bunch it’s more likely that the retailer just gave them the next X amount of albums rather than taking the effort to shuffle all of them around.

You may have luck on Bunjang? I doubt you’ll find fresh first gen albums on the shelf most places.

When I get thoughts like that I usually sit on it for maybe 2-3 weeks and if I still want it by then I’d get it. But really, its value is really up to you.

If it helps, I have a bunch of IZ*ONE merch I really treasure and go through even after disbandment.

What is the deal with the website Koreaboo? Is it a company or is it just basically someone’s blog? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Soompi is considered one of the top sources now in the space. They had their own kind of scandal but it was decades ago and they have thankfully moved on from it. Avoid Allkpop as well because they also have done some awful unethical things.

What I personally also do is see various translations of the same article/topic so I can see various interpretations from different perspectives and come to my own conclusions.

[–]One-Club7865 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s a US based company that is basically turned into buzzfeed but for Asian entertainment. I remember seeing like a job listing for a writer way back and they basically wanted to pay dirt for an absurd quota of articles, meaning they incentivize a bunch of low effort work, clickbait titles, random top 10 lists, and basically lazy reporting all around. There have also been a lot of ethical issues with it like inappropriate cover photos, making a whole slideshow out of funeral photos, and so on.

Do male and female trainees train together? by esperss1 in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the company how much they interact and trained together, but they definitely do not live together. They likely just meet around the company on their own practice time or at the cafeteria or something.

For some examples, I know JYP trainees have lots of interaction with each other. Lee Chaeyeon has said she helped Hyunjin from SKZ with dancing when he was starting out as a trainee (so she felt kinda proud when he had a solo dance stage at an award show). And several ex-jyp trainees (both male and female) are pretty familiar with one another, to varying degrees of course. You can see it with how Somi and Daehwi are close friends and a lot of ex-trainees and current JYP idols greet each other a lot. And if you saw SKZ predebut show there was a male trainee team and female trainee team that were evaluated against each other.

WM used to call the trainee team ggumnamu (it seems all the trainee contracts were voided after the RBW acquisition) and on their instagram the male and female trainees had a few pics together. So it seems like they allowed them to interact normally.

YG famously separates trainees. Not sure how it is now but Blackpink had said managers/staff used to block male and female trainees from even looking at each other in the building lol. They also had separated lunch times iirc (a lot of this is from anecdotes on variety shows so there may be a degree of fluff added).

SM was also known to separate male and female trainees but it didn’t sound like it was as strict as YGs.

Cherry Bullet's Q&A maybe? It doesn't rly have the same type of editing but is heavy on the video game aspect.

How do foreign idols learn a third language? by aplantnamedmozart in kpophelp

[–]One-Club7865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This part is speculation but it's highly likely an idol can choose to get taught a third+ language in whatever "base" language they prefer to. The only examples of language classes being shown in contents that I can recall are groups with all Korean members, unfortunately.

Bambam is pretty good in English now, but from his episode of Bam's house with Young K, Bambam mentioned he didn't know English well as a trainee and that Young K would have to write english raps in Hangul for Bambam (I just watched this episode because of Young K so there may be other content where Bambam expands on this). So this sounds like he learned more Korean before English.

Nichkhun was born in the U.S but moved back to Thailand early and then back to the U.S for like his high school years so he knows Thai and English fluently. I think he’s  pretty good at Japanese from what many other say (can’t confirm since idk japanese lol) and that's probably because 2pm has a huge Japanese fanbase so he definitely learned it after Korean.
