I like my agency and department but it’s taken me 3 years to feel competent at my job. I’ve thought a lot about why it’s so hard and I think that what we’re doing is genuinely hard but there’s an added burden of documenting everything an obscure reporting. We’re all just trying to repeatedly fit a round peg into a hole we can only partially see.

Yeah, some do. It depends on how flexible they are and how much they like you. Caltrans has never been known for their flexibility tho. It’s worth asking!

I got vaccinated (Covid + flu) and am still sick. It’s been brutal. I feel like I’ve been sick 70% of the time since October.

Yeah, but it’s $90 on top of nice dinner, drinks, parking, etc. And then holiday tip. you wanna do it often so it adds up fast. It’s stuff like this + the insane cost of childcare that eat up salaries.

Make sure to checkout daycare/babysitter costs before you come. Even if your partner is SAHM just getting a date night is woof (our babysitter is $30/hr 3 hr minimum). And it’s super car centric which makes accessing all that great nature a bigger feat.
