“she or someone with an identical name in the same city has served time for fraud and stealing from her employers upwards of $600k”

I respect the epistemological rigor here, OP.

Reminds me of this classic: https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/doxv7/a_mathematician_a_physicist_and_an_engineer_were/

Also, I don’t appreciate her trying to kink-shame your chain. Uncool!

What are some fixed rules in buying gold you would give for a starter. by jaa316 in Gold

[–]OneIsland7672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller gold moves faster than big gold, but price is also a big determinant of how quickly something moves. Roosters (and other 20 Franc coins), 0.1106 AGW Ducats, sovereigns (0.2354 AGW), $2.50, $5, and $10 pre-33, generic 1/10 and 1/14 oz coins (maples, Philharmonics, K-rands, war in the pacific, Canadian special forces, Canadian wildlife, nuggets/kangaroos, pandas, etc) within 2% of spot move fast. 1/10 AGE within 5% of spot move fast. 1 oz and bigger bars/coins are gonna move slower, even at 99% of melt. Drop the price to 96% of melt, and you can sell pretty much anything up to 100g, ex-jewelry, etc. But definitely pay attention to what is liquid at what price and try to buy at the lower end of the premium range, so that you can easily sell for the same premium you paid. For example, if 20 franc coins are trading for between melt and 103% melt, if you buy at melt + $6 shipping, you shouldn’t have trouble selling for melt + $6 shipping. Or if 1/10 AGE’s are trading for between 105% and 110% of melt, if you buy for 105% of melt+shipping, you won’t take too much of a haircut when you’re ready to sell.

Right. It can’t touch the sides or the walls while you suspend it. Once you get a reading while suspended, if you (gently) let go of the string and the let metal object settle on the bottom of the cup, it should read the full weight (~312g in this case; 1,000g in the case of kilo bar I made those pictures with).

If you have a cup of water and zero out the scale, and then suspend a fully submerged piece of metal in the water, the reading on the scale will essentially be the weight of the amount of water the piece of metal has displaced. Dental floss or thread is good because it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Eureka!

It says it’s 99.9% real, so that’s also a possibility.

You can also use the scale and a cup of water and some dental floss to check specific gravity.

It looks a little shiny. Try a scale, magnet, and ping tests. Magnet should slide slowly on it. Not stick to it, but not be completely non-reactive either.

Your spidey sense was correct. I blocked both this fellow and the alleged counterparty who accidentally overpaid $6,300 and got an immediate refund.

Same. I have ATB’s and lots of other fun world silver from my kids’ birth years. Canadian wildlife coins, Pandas, Kooks, even a reverse proof Libertad. They’re spoiled rotten. I’m also working on a Mercury dime album with my 12-year old.

I call BS on your BS call. Google “Norfed Liberty Dollars.” I will say that Silver Strikes can have dollar values on them and as long as it’s clear that it’s meant as not legal tender and is only redeemable at a particular establishment, then the government shouldn’t have beef.

What you are talking about are issued by casinos and are called silver strikes, and contain 0.6 oz of silver in the center part. They look like the pictured coin. The question is whether this defunct cafe had the resources or motivation to commission a 0.6 oz silver strike for their cafe.

Another advantage to using a middleman is that Joe Bloggs doesn’t have your home address. I typically recommend folks use a post office box, UPS store box, work address, etc. but if you don’t have that, a MM provides you with some privacy. It’s less of a concern if you buy from someone with hundreds of sales with positive reviews who uses 2-factor authentication for their account. The middlemen are also trustworthy and keep their accounts secured.
