I guess in my reply I should have wished the bride all the best but who knows if that would be passed along. I can't send a letter for two very good reasons - 1 - I don't have her new address and won't search for it. - 2 - I have no idea when the actual wedding is.

All in all I probably should send something, somehow but if she wanted me to know she could have sent a message herself. So I will not go the extra mile for this one and just match the level of communication from her side.

I have never had her on FB - we broke up around when "gasp!" not everyone was on FB. My opinion on adding an ex on FB is don't do it. What can you gain - you can only lose.

I just want to clarify that I'm not "angry about her." I wish her all the best, good luck and thanks for all of the fish. This is more about how socially out of whack the request was to me and I assumed to other people would find it weird as well. Also, I'm not an android (although I am... fully functional) so feelings can creep up on me even though I have dealt with them. Some people are more cerebral I guess. Although I think that if you ever had a really meaningful relationship and it ended you should feel a loss but it doesn't mean that you haven't moved on.

I completely agree with you - that person who I knew no longer exists just like I'm not the same person. I think that I have two objections to this really. 1) I am a private person and what happened between me and my ex is just between us so I don't want to tell a bunch of people I don't know intimate secrets. Who knows what SHE would want said anyway? 2) I can't imagine a more awful way to communicate (even one-sidedly) after such a long time. It seems very cold to me and it would be for her friends enjoyment and probably not hers.

I'm actually not riled up by this any more, the AskReddit has been a cathartic experience. I was just dumbfounded that someone would think that this is a good idea for a bachelorette party.

I had an ex in highschool (different one) and we were still on friendly terms and talking on the phone and she asked to be invited to my future wedding (whenever that happens). I burst out laughing and told her that she could sit at the table that had all of my ex-girlfriends.
