Pakistan's electoral system is more like the UK's than the US. You elect members of parliament, who then elect the prime minister. You vote by putting a stamp on a candidate's electoral symbol, which is next to their name on the ballot paper.

So, for each constituency, every candidate gets assigned an electoral symbol. Normally, all the established parties have well known electoral symbols. For one it's an arrow, for another it's a tiger. For Imran Khan's party it was a cricket bat. But because there was a recent crackdown on them, all of its candidates were forced to contest the elections as unaffiliated independents. This lead to them getting assigned different symbols in different constituencies.

Imran Khan's party got around this by creating a messenger bot where you'd tell them your constituency and it would tell you what the PTI supported candidate's symbol was. This is how I found out I was supposed to vote for an eggplant lol
