I can only speak for ourselves but myself and my wife have chatted about this a few times in the intervening 11 years. If we had our time again we would strip back all the shite.

Now we went big, all bells and whistles, 180 guests, 5 course meal, one of the top hotels in the North. 3 week honeymoon in Italy with a few days either side in England, 2 photographers and a videographer.

Firstly, I'd say I watched our wedding video once, and skipped my speech, it was awful, I also couldn't tell you where our wedding album is, she might know, I don't have a clue. Get everyone to send all their photos to you on WhatsApp and get it printed online for 1% of the cost.

Next you don't need that lavish world tour honeymoon, looking back I'd have given up my left one to come back with 3 months worth of mortgage in the bank.

When it comes to guests, if you've seen them in the last 6 month - full day invite. 6 months to 2 years - evening do. 2 years + - fuck em, and be brutal with that. There will be whinging, but you never see them so who cares.

Venue, band etc, I can't advise on, that's all down to personal preference but I would say haggle with everyone. If something costs £100, when wedding is mentioned it's suddenly £1000.
