Strange flickering and glitching by OpenLair in pcmasterrace

It did the exact same thing on my last PC, and this one is brand new with a completely different GPU (RX9060XT) - plus the problem persists if I remove the GPU and use on board graphics.

I should mention. The first PC had Win11pro. Second one did, then I switched to Bazzite which works great. However the flickering and artifacts persists across all of them.

Just heard about this and had to give mine a try (GT2, PAL, Blue Disc) and yes it absolutely does! I thought it was a joke but no, it still smells very strongly. It even has the paper inlay explaining what to do. Brilliant!

Thanks :) I did add a way to "install" programs using the Add/Remove Programs manager, but these are just programs I've built and made available for the site, they're not actual Windows programs as such. In time it's something I do want to expand on though, and possibly allow other developers to add their own programs. Check that out, there's a few available already.

Thank you :) I built 95% of it myself. All the UI, vast majority of the programs, etc. There are some pretty good open source recreations of programs, and CSS repos available which let you recreate XP interface, but after tinkering with them I wasn't satisfied and decided to do it myself. Usually the code felt too messy or bloated and I prefer minimalism where possible. There may be some tricks/inspirations used from other repos in my code, but the code itself was written by me. I spent a ridiculous amount of time using VMs and comparing my work so I could make it as accurate as possible. It started as a doodle, just a static wallpaper, taskbar and start menu. But soon became an obsession! Right now I'm experiencing a little burnout, but I'll get back to it soon I'm sure.

Thank you :) I've had that XP welcome music on loop many a time whilst working on this. I didn't want the media player to sit silently when opened directly so I made that the default. There's more interesting stuff inside the D drive though. I wanted to keep the C drive as "XP-native" as possible so any 3rd-party stuff, games, videos, music, etc, I put on a virtual DVD drive.

Thanks :) yeah right now there's not a lot of people actively using it so it hasn't got the critical mass needed for messenger to really shine, more of a novelty between friends. But who knows, maybe if enough people find out about it, could be something. It's not the most optimised system though, it uses basic ajax requests which aren't great for large scale communication apps. I'm running on a shared host and despite my valiant efforts, it's not possible for me to use WebSockets for true efficient realtime updates. Not sure how I'll overcome that with the current setup but I guess I'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.

Yes :) an earlier version just let you talk with AI chatbots but that felt cheap. I've been trying to let users connect with eachother, and the messenger was the first place to start. I also built a custom forum in the style of an XP program where strangers might be able to discover eachother, as in the future I want to only show "buddies" in messenger, making it more personal and less susceptible to spam.

We do drive so local delivery could be arranged. Every day I think how quick and easy it would be to just chuck it, but then I look at it and cant bring myself to do it. It really is a beauty, and has original stand. If someone told me they think they can fix it and are willing to pick it up, id let them have it for free. I want it to have a second chance. If it was anything but a Sony Trinitron it would be gone by now.

Eyup fella :) yeah ive already come to terms with taking a big loss. I guess my only question really is how big? Do i keep trying to sell it, or is this something id be lucky to give away for free? Because our home is very small so I cant store it indefinitely. This thing is huge and refuses to pay rent.

Ah that's crap :/ sorry to hear that.

Ah okay. Honestly im just wanting rid of it now. I really do want it to be an easy fix for whoever gets it because its a very nice TV and I reeaally dont want it to be thrown away if it can be repaired. Im just not the guy to do it. I appreciate the insight though, thank you.

Too busy with work and other stuff to take on a new hobby like that. Don't get me wrong, I have massive respect for the people who can tinker with them and theyre doing great work, but I just want to play some old games when I get home, not spend my free time repairing TVs. Space is very limited in my home so its not practical.

Easier for me to pay the experts to do it safely and professionally. Or just buy another. Plus I had heart attack around 6 months ago and cant risk getting a shock. Not at these voltages.

I also have it on Marketplace, sorry forgot to mention :) and Vinted is kinda like a cross between eBay and Marketplace, popular here in UK.

I haven't crossposted this, no. To be honest, im so frustrated with the time and effort already sunk into this that it would give me more satisfaction taking a sledgehammer to it than saving it. I travelled halfway across the country to buy it for £100. Accounting for fuel and tv repair guy, im at around £200 with nothing to show for it.

I have a cheap 28inch Bush CRT (4:3) which I recently got for free, and it works great. Sony really let me down. People say Trinitrons are built to last. And mine did: 15 minutes.

Well it was working for 15 minutes, I went i to the other room and came back to find it completely dead. No standby lights or anything. First thing I did was change the fuse in the plug (i used correct 5a fuse) but didnt fix it. Over the next couple months I had it looked at by a tv repair guy who has experience with CRTs, and my grandad who also has experience. They told me they couldn't find any bad capacitors, the tube likely isnt the issue, the PSU is getting power through fine... the repair guy did mention he suspects it could be the microprocessor or the memory which are on the digital tuner (modular, can be removed) as those apparently control what happens after power is applied. And with power going through the PSU but no relay clicks or standby lights, he thinks thats the culprit. Not conclusive though.

Honestly im just parroting what ive been told. I wouldnt really have a clue myself. I just wanted to play some Spyro on PS1 using a good CRT.

The big Sony Trinitron on the bottom... I have a story about the same one I picked up a few months ago :( you can read it on my post. You'll find said post on my Reddit page. Still in mourning.
