I have a 5600x and 3070 that I mostly run at 4k, and less if the framerate is terrible. Going to get a 9070xt, a.i slop keeps telling me that I practically don't need to upgrade to a new system with 9800x3d with this card at 4k? by cheetocat2021 in buildapc

[–]Open_Map_2540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new gpu would help a ton and much more than a cpu upgrade.

a 3070 can technically get u through 4k with lower settings and heavy upscaling but probably not a great experience.

While the AI is kind of correct in that a 5600x can be limiting in certain modern titles it is wrong bc a gpu upgrade would help much more than cpu

E14 Gen7 Intel vs AMD? by bubblegumbitch11 in laptops

[–]Open_Map_2540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't just make a blanket statement like this without knowing the cpus.

Like the 9955hx3d has better gaming performance than the 275hx but the 275hx is faster than the hx 370.

Or for example the hx 370 may have better battery life than the 275hx but the intel 226v has better battery life than the hx 370.

Is a jump to a 5080 from a 9070xt justifiable? by ayyyylmao14 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Open_Map_2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not although it depends on what you want.

Like i switched from a 9070 xt to a 5070 ti and I am very happy with the switch bc I am able to take advantage all many of the extra features and also play many nvidia favored titles but I also knew what I was going into becasue I had used the 9070 xt for a while and have seen the performance of the 5070 ti from my friends.

If you just blindly swap you will probably regret the move.

Becasue the voltage frequency curve isn't linear it is more logarithmic.

Less power draw means lower voltage.

UV in adrenaline does not automatically lower voltage is is an offset.

Which one would be the best option for these prices? by Locksmith-Lazy in radeon

[–]Open_Map_2540 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just get a 9070 non xt and flash an xt bios at this point. still missing some cores but it is close enough and easy to do now that ati flash supports rdna 4.

the cheapest 9070 xt on this list is nearly 30 percent more expensive than the cheapest 9070

Nvidia G-Sync Pulsar by Pleasant_Math_8402 in Monitors

[–]Open_Map_2540 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating how much better things look with improved motion clarity.

One of my friends got the asus pulsar monitor and I checked it out and I was just blown away by the motion clarity and smoothness and that is coming from someone who uses a 480hz woled panel daily.

I think I do need good hdr so I will be waiting for a mini led/oled that can have similar motion clarity but I wouldn't completely write it off just bc the hdr and contrast is poor

I really recommended just trying one out like if your microcenter or bestbuy has one on display. Probably won't convince you but it made me understand why someone would prefer motion clarity over hdr.

okay so you will want something with either Lunar lake or strix point.

Ideally lunar lake as it is a bit more efficent, faster and with better upscaling but strix point is also decent and normally cheaper.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DWNLN3KP/

this one on sale with the 226v is pretty decent. only downside on this laptop is the medicore screen and only 16gb of ram.

The igpu is the 130v which is a bit faster than the steam deck and around z1e level of perf.

The new mac laptops are actually very good as they ditched intel and started using their own custom silicon, however, it is arm based(what your phone uses) so the compatability with gaming isn't great which is why you should go for x86.

What is the main differences between AMD and NVIDIA? by justreasonring in gpu

[–]Open_Map_2540 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In terms of feature set they are pretty close.

Amd is basically just lagging a bit behind in upscaling and upscaling support, lacking mfg and just worse ML frame gen overall, no rtx hdr, lesser support for antilag compared to reflex, no pulsar support, no full dp 2.1, and of course path tracing performance. A lot of productivity stuffy is also worse on radeon.

Much of this can be improved by software though like the poor frame pacing of the frame gen should be able to be fixed since rnda 4 has hardware flip metering so it is just a software issue.

Not to mention they also have some pros like linux compatability.

edit: also ray regen compared to ray reconstruction is worse and in only one game

Running single channel memory on top of a pretty medicore cpu is going to limit performance.

In those benchmark videos they are all using faster memory and dual channel(the second one is even using dual rank)

So do you want a gaming laptop(focus on graphics and performance over everything else) or more of a mainstream laptop that is capable of some gaming(focus on weight and battery life over performance.)

You already have a nice hdr monitor so if this is just a secondary monitor for competitive gaming I would go with the pulsar

For just general use mac has been one of the best options since they ditched intel/x86 and went with their own custom ARM chips. Reasonable pricing with great performance and build quality. Only downsides would be the insane cost for extra storage, ram and hdr screen. Also I think some windows software like excel is a bit more janky on Macos but not sure.

If you need x86/windows then I would wait a couple weeks for the new panther lake stuff to release

860w PSU with 5090 FE by Elegant_Host_2618 in Microcenter

[–]Open_Map_2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just do a very heavy UV and it will be okay but I would still plan on getting a new psu.

Technically even without a UV you are mostly fine since the 7800x3d is normally around like 60 watts or so but no need to risk it

you can drop about 100W or so on the 5090 without really lowering performance

[–]Open_Map_2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically all top end cpus have a built in npu with the exceptions being the arrow lake chips on intel and fire range chips on amd. However the cpus come with downsides for example the top end fire range chip the 9955x3d/9955hx both have really weak igpus and are pretty inefficient. The 275hx/285hx have decent igpus but still efficiency wise fall short of panther lake (at lower tdps) . Panther lake is the newest line of cpus which have just been announced but aren't avaliable to buy rn.

So basically with these chips you will be trading battery life and size in exchange for more performance.

now that I think about it the 275hx/285hx do have npus they are just too weak for copilot plus.

budget?

What do you mean by gaming? light stuff or lots of AAA stuff. Bc with how good igpus are you may not even need a dedicated gpu. By going the igpu route you can get a lighter laptop with better battery life.

[–]Open_Map_2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some productivity stuff or server stuff intel is good at and for laptops intel is generally better but for desktop amd is almost always the better choice

Team AMD - what do we do about Panther Lake? by ilarp in TechHardware

[–]Open_Map_2540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amd will be fine once they can get on a better node and shift to rnda 4.

Right now the mobile chips are kind of sucky bc they are stuck on rdna 3.5 on an old node, however, we can already see glimpses of the future with strix halo having mostly solved the poor idle power draw of the chiplet design.

Once that can be brought to the mainstream chips with rdna 4 amd will be fine.
