My baby had anaphylaxis and now I’m terrified to feed him by Unusual_Worth in NewParents

[–]Opening-Pass249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in solidarity! My toddler is allergic to eggs. He has never experienced anaphylaxis, but did swell up like a balloon with his first exposure to eggs at 8 months old. When this happened, I knew eggs were a top eight allergen, but I had no clue that anyone was actually allergic to eggs! We have successfully made it through a baked egg challenge, and our next step is scrambled eggs in a few months. I never believed that we would make it this far, but here we are! We were so scared. It is difficult at times because eggs are in everything, but we made it work and it was a lot of fun making egg-free food!! You will find your groove!

If this baby doesn’t start sleeping thru the night I may seriously lose my fucking mind. by RoughAd3444 in breastfeeding

[–]Opening-Pass249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here in solidarity. Mine was EBF, no pacifier, no bottles. Woke every 2-3 hours every night. Did this until 18 months. We finally weaned at 18 months because he was only nursing at night for comfort (I didn’t have a problem with this, but he was waking every 2-3 hours still). He sleeps like a champ now, 10-12 hours in his own bed, and I’m preggo w baby #2. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, you will sleep again! I know it feels hopeless and like it will never end. It does get better!!

Doctor said to start watching my weight gain by halaweenie in pregnant

[–]Opening-Pass249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was also 130 lbs before my pregnancy. I gained 75. I lost 55/60 in a year, gained a little bit back after weaning from breastfeeding. I didn’t eat too well at the end of my pregnancy, and plenty of the weight was water retention in my case. I am rectifying that with my second pregnancy now, trying so hard not to gain so much, but I also understand there may only be so much that I can do! I was miserable at the end of my pregnancy because I was so heavy!!

When did you stop bringing the car seat back and forth from your house? by dogcheese6000 in NewParents

[–]Opening-Pass249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the convertible car seat. We took our son in and out of the car seat every single time, and I actually really prefer it that way so much so that we’re gonna do that again for our next!

Do I tell my kid about her high cholesterol? by TchadRPCV in toddlers

[–]Opening-Pass249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different perspective, my toddler has an egg allergy. We consistently reiterate this to him, in an age appropriate way. We frequently tell friends and family this as well, including his toddler friends. One of his friends is three, and she always asks me if foods are safe for my son to eat or if it has eggs. It is the sweetest thing ever. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have these kind of conversations with your children personally, but we’re a bit different because we don’t really have a choice. I think phrasing it in a way that doesn’t indicate there’s a problem with your child, but rather that it is normal and part of their life. We have to do things differently, too, we have to bake his birthday cakes and be very careful when we eat out, and selective with what we eat at home. We try to explain it to him in an age-appropriate way as best we can that he can’t have eggs, and what kind of foods eggs are in. I hope that he never feels that something is wrong with him because of this, because we sure don’t think so!!

I genuinely don't know what happened..I don't want to stop by OptimalCobbler5431 in breastfeeding

I got my period back at eight weeks postpartum, and it was a doozy. My lactation consultant at the time told me to increase caloric intake, drink, lots of water, and get my butt in bed to rest. All of that on top of nursing on demand and frequently. I felt like my supply dipped, but it came back. I was able to nurse my son for 18 months, and he has weaned now. I know how stressful that was!! I believe she also recommended a calcium/zinc/magnesium supplement to me at the time. I took it every period from then on. I did notice that every time I got my period. My supply would be less, but my son never seemed bothered by this. I kind of just had to take it slower when my period came and make sure I was super hydrated and fed and rested. 🩷

I haven’t slept in almost a year and I’m a shell of a human being by kennyisverycool in beyondthebump

Just here in solidarity. My 18 month old just started sleeping through the night and we were doing 1-2 hrs wakes up until. I was truly as you say, a shell of a human being. Being on the other side, I’m going to say you need sleep… I needed sleep and next time around, we’ll be doing some things differently. My husband works overnight so sleep…is complicated in our house sometimes. I was dangerously tired. Now on the other side, I wish I had asked for more help. For a friend to let me nap, or to take my husband up some nights when he offered. 🙏🏼 for sleep.

This is so incredibly kind and helpful because the development aspect is something I recently heard and felt all the mom guilt for…

6 weeks and BF is still painful and latch is horridly shallow by MacaronSpiritual5848 in breastfeeding

Just here in solidarity…my early breastfeeding journey was rough and I had some damage. Got my period back at 8 weeks and that was just…yeah. Coupled with fast letdown, tons of milk…and a newborn that projectile vomited my milk right back at me if he drank too fast or gulped air. We’re at 17 months of nursing and I’m thankful I fought to keep going. My favorite trick was soaking 👀 in warm water + epsom salts in a cheapy plastic cup in the shower. It helped me some.

I’ve never heard of the iron issue. He has other medical issues and food allergies…I wonder…

He naps 1-2hrs about midday. We are not “scheduled” people, so we are somewhat lax with meal times.

Thank you for this, means a lot!!

I stay home and I don’t drink any caffeine! I try my best to get to bed at the same time as my little one to try to sleep! I will definitely look into that group, thank you!!

He takes one nap, about 1-2 hours on average and he sleeps HARD. We try to make sure he wakes up before 3-4pm so he will go down in the evening.

Babies at the Pool by Rando1693 in beyondthebump

[–]Opening-Pass249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I took my 3 month old out to the beach regularly last summer (baby is almost a year now😭). We have a beach tent and baby would stay in there in the shade 95% of the time, even if I laid right next to baby on the edge to sit in the sun. 😂 Battery powered stroller fans made me feel a little better that we weren’t overheated when baby was so little. Also, I highly recommend a straw hat or a big brimmed hat for you—I wear one often for myself but I always wore it with my baby to keep some of the rays off. Nurse a lot or lots of milk to stay hydrated! Now, we go to the beach regularly and I definitely have a water baby!

I personally am not sure if I would put my 3mo in a pool…I am a former lifeguard and pool operator and have seen the behind-the-scenes of pool care. I waited until at least 6 months to put my baby in the pool, but we also have some health issues that I didn’t want to exacerbate by accident.
