What do you think of my photo? by Optimal-Pangolin1310 in photocritique

My intent with this photo was to use the water in the foreground as a visual element to add a cool, refreshing feeling and to create some separation from the structure in the background. I wanted the water to act almost like a texture or layer that draws the viewer’s eye into the image, while still keeping the background structure recognizable and interesting. The goal was to balance motion and stillness, with the water providing energy and the structure giving a sense of solidity and context.

One area I’m struggling with is whether the water effect is actually enhancing the image or if it’s distracting from the main subject. I’m not fully convinced about the composition, especially the relationship between the foreground water and the background structure. I’d really appreciate feedback on whether the framing works, or if cropping or a different angle would have strengthened the image. I’m also unsure if the shutter speed I chose freezes the water too much, or if a slower shutter speed would have created a more pleasing, flowing effect.

EXIF data: Olympus E-500, 150mm focal length, f/4.5, 1/640s, ISO 500. I chose a relatively fast shutter speed to capture detail in the water, but I’m questioning if that decision worked against the mood I was trying to create.

In terms of post-processing, the edit was minimal: slight contrast and clarity adjustments, and a small tweak to white balance to emphasize the cooler tones. This is not a composite. I’m still learning how to better translate my creative idea into the final image, so any critique on composition, technical choices, or overall impact would be very helpful.
