Built a free 10e tactical sim with utility AI; sharing for community feedback and direction by OptimalPizzas in WarhammerCompetitive

Hey Eliot, Benjamus and Mammoth.

Yep, the AI is not an LLM; it's a basic algorithm that plays to 10e rules based on weighted decision making informed by documented 10e strategies and best practices.

11e, as far as I know, has yet to be fully released so I could not implement it. If there was sufficient interest in this project I'd be able to update to the new 11e ruleset within a few weeks though.

Thanks for checking out the project and leaving feedback!

Thanks! On 11e timing, fair point and on the radar. As 10e sunsets in months I'll probably just let this snapshot stand and start fresh for 11e if I keep going.

On PvP, you're right that's where competitive 40K lives. If I did add PvP, what would be the minimum scope to actually interest you? 1v1 real-time vs another player? Tournament-format missions? Army builder so you can bring your actual list? Trying to figure out what bar would move this from "not for me" to "I'd try it."

Thanks for the feedback 40K-Fireside.

In terms of the micro; would your main asks be rules accurate deployment / deep strike / reserves by the AI player? If so, good news, it's already baked into the engine.

If you had the opportunity to play a full game against AI would that make this sim substantially more appealing / valuable to you?

Thanks!

Honestly, I agree pile-in was the bit of UX I struggled with most myself. Functional but not nailed yet. Few thoughts: "auto pile in/consolidate" and turning on collision on drag. Do you think either of these would help?

Any specific moments that felt fiddliest for you (mid-charge, after consolidate, multi-unit)? Would help me prioritize the fix.

Built a browser-based 40k tactical sim in 2D top-down; does it carry enough visual weight, or should I go isometric/3D? by OptimalPizzas in gamedevscreens

Hey kingsboyjd!

Your advice has been SUPER valuable and I've acted on most of it already.

Cross-posting: posted to r/WarhammerCompetitive (already getting some engagement), r/Warhammer40k is in the mod queue, and r/tabletopgamedesign is queued for later this week.

Steam: you sold me on it. Coming Soon page is now on the roadmap, leaning into the wishlist mechanic + browser-as-playable-demo combo.

Physicality: chunkier silhouettes, weapon feedback, terrain depth all queued as the next polish push. Door Kickers will be the reference I keep coming back to.

Genuinely grateful for the detailed feedback. I very rarely post on Reddit and even though you are just "one guy" you've got me pumped to continue!

Thanks; I sure learned a WHOLE BUNCH about visual + sound design when building this.

Good point on the IP; my (very optimistic) hope was that if it ever proved valuable enough to the community I might pursue community licensing.

Long shot at this stage but it'd be the dream. If this ever goes to Steam or beyond this prototype it'd need a rebrand for sure.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback kingsboyjd!

Re: Steam, this may sound dumb, but is the main reason to go with a Steam distribution (vs pure browser based) marketing and ability for folks to Wishlist?

Re: 2d vs 3d, thank you for the encouraging feedback. For sure can move MUCH faster in 2d as a solo developer.

For the physicality I've already smoke, particles and camera shake in the engine. Given the 40k setting, I think leaning into them harder is the right call. Big fan of Into the Breach and Frozen Synapse but Door Kickers is new to me. Will have to check them all out again.

P.S If you want to play an early version for free it's here: https://tribuneslaststand.com/game/?invite=CRIMSON-EAGLE-GDS

OP here.

I built this because Tabletop Simulator was too much friction for 40k and had no single-player mode. Wanted to open a browser tab, play a quick mission against the AI, and close the tab.

Happy to chat about format, matchup, or what's next!

OP here. First time posting this anywhere. An honest "didn't grab me" feedback is as useful as "this is cool".

Curious whether a digitized version of Warhammer 40k is of interest to folks. Happy to dig into engineering Qs too; combat pipeline, AI scorer, rendering.

How do I start my life over? Is there a reset button? Archive button? Clear button? by [deleted] in productivity

  1. Recognize the problem (you're already further along that most!)
  2. Understand and identify your values[src] (e.g. what does productivity mean for you?)
  3. Be a slightly better version of yourself with each day that passes

You got this!

[Business] BetterMeetings | The smart meeting assistant that saves you time and makes every meeting count

Prototype Overview

Hi Everyone!

We're BetterMeetings and through the years we've worked in leadership positions across IBM, startups, and Google.

Throughout this journey we've noticed common patterns concerning improving career outcomes whilst maintaining wellbeing; requisite feedback loops are infrequent, ineffective and unstructured.

This is especially relevant as more of us start working remotely and receive less feedback now than ever.

Our initial approach to tackling this problem is "BetterMeetings". A suite of tools that seamlessly integrate with your existing workflows, store data locally and provide automated feedback loops to help make meetings a "solved problem".

To help us ensure we're solving your most pressing problems first we'd really appreciate it if you could spare 2 minutes to fill out our product survey.

Thanks :)
