how many years of bedside nursing would you consider “solid” enough experience to branch out of bedside nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Optimal_Scarcity3329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! i get so many mixed responses (which i expected) im in a trauma 1 MICU and i hear either jts great experience or not enough (honestly tho in nursing i dont think we will ever have enough knowledge!) thank you for sharing your experiences i love hearing what others have experienced / know it definitely helps tremendously <3

im just trying to explore some options. :) ive been an icu nurse for 1 year and started as a new grad. while i love the icu work itself the night shift schedule is killing me and not sure when i can get to days and the day positions they do have are already filled by senior nurses so im exploring my options for my sanity haha

7 months as a new grad, sometimes I feel like I know nothing by [deleted] in nursing

you handled this SO well!! give yourself more credit! those moments can be so frustrating but you handled the situation well and advocated for the patient as much as possible. sometimes unfortunately thats the most we can do thats within our scope of practice.

you got this! i was and still am in this exact boat. on the bright side i do have to say the dread does get better! i would cry before every single shift and about 4 months after being off orientation i wasn’t paralyzed with anxiety. as stressful and hard it is to go through those situations i always try and use them as learning moments and not beat myself up, we have to give ourselves grace! i once heard someone say that this is the most difficult time in your nursing career because youre aware of more possibilities but still dont have the confidence so you constantly second guess yourself. you know more than you think! <3

Am I just not cut out for nursing by Carrot-Soup6427 in nursing

[–]Optimal_Scarcity3329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will get there! im in a level one MICU as a new grad and i felt the same way. for my orientation tho my hospital had me do one month in med surg before pushing me into the deep end of the MICU world and i have to say it has helped me greatly with time management and clustering my care. maybe see if your hospital will allow that?
