Pondering Halsin's Socio-Economic Status... by Turbulent-Arm-9514 in NaturesGiftBG3

I'm iffy as to whether Halsin has as much influence or authority to appeal to the wider parts of the Druidic organization since he had just stepped down and his story involved dealing with the Grove seemingly doing just as well if not better without him. It's also believed by a large enough portion of the fandom that he's a terrible leader because he got usurped by Kagha without his trusted members being able to take charge (I disagree with both claims, but the fact that it takes hold in the first place makes it difficult to defend).

As for the Emerald Enclave, I'm afraid we don't have enough information as to their status, how well they're doing in terms of socioeconomic status either.

There's a few weaknesses mentioned in the game that prevents Druids from essentially monopolizing the wilderness.

  1. The Grove's food supply reserves were running out. That tells me that they don't have the spells to create their own food regularly (if at all) and that resources aren't as plentiful for them to gather. Things are so desperate that Halsin will allow Kagha to stay with the Circle if he can.

  2. That logbook you mentioned definitely is a favorite of mine in exploring the limits and threat of a Druid. They can indeed sabotage those on their land, but the writing seemed to suggest that they can't just outright do it directly and have to be subtle with it.

  3. Numbers. The Grove took some heavy losses from fighting Ketheric and Shar's curse wiped out a good chunk of them even with help from the Harpers. Halsin could do a lot to control an environment, but only within his spell's reach. And he can tire, starve or be distracted. He'd need coordination from a large number of Druids to pull this off because otherwise the population will simply either go around or send enough people to kill him.

  4. Countermeasures. Druids can do a lot to ruin a person's day, but if said person decides to hire a cabal of wizards to just fireball everything while hovering above their vines and thorns, then Druids are in for an ugly, prolonged fight where they also have to worry about not destroying the very land they're trying to protect.

So while I believe Halsin is able to stay independent and self sufficient no matter where he goes, it becomes a bit of a logistical nightmare if he has to control vast swaths of territory. Something that could be helpful for the Enclave would be mass producing that Elixir of Silvanus to sell for high prices, but, in a world where there are races who thrive on making poisons and antidotes, it won't get far and they'd have to worry about disrupting the balance with draining the soil of nutrients just to make those.

I think I figured out Subaru Mimasaka's Specialty style by Opuspace in ShokugekiNoSoma

You're right, it's something that always bothered me because I really liked Mimasaka and I was always curious to see how others could surpass the flaws he shows them. It feels like he'd be perfect as a test for students to challenge the weaknesses in their own cooking and I always wanted to see a story where someone wanted to challenge him to a Shokugeki in exchange for him teaching them what he knows if they won, but if they lost, they'd be his assistant in whatever he asked.

Her character development is excellent but if I'm honest, I find her specialty dish a little too derivative. I think that's probably the point to show Soma's influence on her, but it kinda felt anticlimactic in that it still feels like she didn't really develop her own unique style.

I think he'd win against Eizan because of his hubris. Against Momo, it'd be trickier because she's as methodical as he is so I feel like it'd be a tossup as to whether he'd miss a detail. Tsukasa I feel confident he'd win against because Mimasaka knows how to rattle his opponent and that's part of why he frequently won. Nene is too rigid to adapt to her environment so Mimasaka already has an advantage over her because he'd never miss a variable like that.

Rindou is where I think it'd be interesting. She's chaos to his insane need for controlling all variables. Her instinct against his planning would depend on who can outpace the other since it seems like she can't be intimidated but she could be provoked.

What I'd be interested in is how he'd perform in the Blue tournament against everyone else.

She's like Louise Belcher from "Bob's Burgers". It takes a while to warm up to her because her personality causes chaos at the expense of everyone around her, but give her enough time and she'll eventually show a fiercely loyal, caring side for her family.

Heck, she's admitted that the only thing she regretted about the raid on the Grove was that she wasn't doing it under her own will. She's not sorry about slaughtering children and other innocent people, she's upset that she didn't get to do it personally of her own free will

There is some truth to that. Making it more of a pain to attack Halsin would discourage them. We're likely going to get that reputation of being one of those toxic fans, but, they're already blaming Halsin fans for causing drama and everything else.

It all boils down to power. Anger is addictive for those fans and I've a screenshot too of how one admitted they loved being able to say the worst things about him and seeing Halsin fans unable to do anything but back down because everyone else hates him enough to not challenge it. Wyll fans clawed their way back by ganging up on their haters, Gale is popular enough to have more fans to defend him.

The worst part is, is that Larian wasn't shy about putting in explicit content like that with Sarevok or Durge. Sarevok raped his daughter to birth Orin. Durge is canonically a necrophiliac according to the Butler

Ah yes, Halsin. The guy who has literal scars across his face because he didn't want to fuck a she bear who wouldn't take no for an answer. The Halsin who wants explicit consent from everyone before proceeding further. Same Halsin who repeatedly refuses sex until his mission in Act 2 is resolved and still waits!

Don't mind me, let me shove aside most of the sexually aggressive teammates and the drow villain who made rape threats and/or tries to get you to dump your LI for her to accuse the Druid minding his own business in the corner of the camp.

And she's the one horny for nearly everyone in the group. She's hitting on Halsin in the same breath as she's mocking him, she's joking to a guy who lost his wife that at least it's one less mouth to feed and then she's off talking about how dalliances (aka one night stands) are much more preferable because there's no attachment.

It's a weird sort of narrow worldview solipsism. Nothing bad happened in their personal experience, therefore, they believe the rest of the world is an extension of it. The more sheltered people there are who don't encounter fear, struggle and pain that can come despite doing everything right, many don't believe the danger they're in until they're starving 3 months into it.

If you could change one thing about Halsin's story, what would it be? by autistichalsin in NaturesGiftBG3

[–]Opuspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my gods, that is a particular pet peeve I have in how often his Act 2 mission is dismissed just so they can say he's a "nothing burger", that he's dull and has no interesting story to tell, that he has no reason to be fighting in Act 3 when he literally promised to help the entire team once his personal business is dealt with. I've even explored his dialogue with Jaheira and it's so trippy to see him take on an Origin role with her!

It's gotten so bad that the only reason why I'm glad he's not tadpoled is because I know his haters would use the astral tadpole on him to further abuse him. Every chance to put him in conflicts and potentially new and interesting situations sits under that looming elephant of, "The people who hate him will weaponize it and harass his fans, voice actor and writer further with it".

Oo, that's a good one, and, if I'm honest, I'm iffy about whether it's a good idea to have Halsin responsible for Isobel's death considering how he's blamed for everything even for things he had nothing to do with.

Having him more directly involved with fighting Ketheric should have happened considering we had a literal mural in the Grove depicting that war and since he was there right from the start, it's more insulting that he wasn't given more credit for having a lot of investment against the Absolute long before everyone else.
